My wife and I were very fortunate to work with John Fuchs for the complete remodel of our two-story Aptos home. John, Carrey, Luke, Scott, and Kirk are true professionals dedicated to delivering the highest quality work, resulting in outstanding results that we love.
Our project involved a comprehensive remodel, taking the house down to the studs, enlarging the structure which required foundation work, installing new plumbing and electrical systems, and renovating bathrooms and kitchens. We also replaced two second-floor decks and upgraded the exterior from wood siding to stucco.
From start to finish, John and Carrey Ward were highly engaged in every aspect and decision of our eight-month remodel. John's extensive experience in every phase of the project provided us with valuable insights, helping us make better decisions throughout the process.
Carrey excellently managed the project, coordinating various subcontractors (electrical, stucco, drywall, plumbing) with minimal delays and ensuring materials were ordered and delivered on time. While the subcontractors employed by John were generally excellent, we did encounter issues with the plumber assigned to our project. However, John promptly addressed this and had the plumbing company correct any issues to our complete satisfaction.
While John might not be the cheapest option, you get what you pay for—a true "A team" dedicated to doing the best work to your complete satisfaction.
In conclusion, we highly recommend John Fuchs Properties: Construction + Real Estate for both new construction and remodeling projects. John and his team take pride in their work, are easy to work with, and are committed to the highest quality standards. They won't consider the job done until you are completely happy with the outcome.

John Fuchs and his construction team(JFC) did an outstanding job on our whole house remodel. During the 9 month process we encountered several structural problems that needed to be addressed, JFC always came with solutions and options on how to proceed with our project. John has an infectious positive attitude, he was available to meet as often as we needed and always kept us informed with the overall budget. The JFC crew always showed up on time, was courteous to our neighbors and left the job site clean on a daily basis. We recommend JFC for any home construction project.Ronda & Kurt Kniffin

They come to my home and send me a preliminary quote after saying to me at my home that they could likely start it quickly, then they cancel over email saying they can no longer do it's and call someone else, NOT good business nor considerate in the least, just simply rude with the way they handled this.

John and his entire team are a joy to work with. They are knowledgable and helpful in navigating the many and sometimes difficult decisions involved in a major remodel job. Many times John gently steered us away from frivolous choices and kept us focused on work that would produce real value. We are very happy with the results of our remodel. We are now in our new home and we have an outstanding construction resource, a neighbor, and a friend in John.

We are very grateful we went with John Fuchs for our major home remodel. He has our highest recommendation. In 2016, we needed a reliable design-build contractor to remodel most of the inside and outside of our house (including a new roof and complete exterior change), as well as a small addition. We had done some initial exploratory work with an architect and other contractors, but then decided we'd try a design-build approach directly with a new contractor -- John Fuchs. We are glad we did. John and his team were extremely helpful, easy to work with in all phases, communicative, quick to contribute many great ideas, and remarkably effective in helping us to develop our own ideas. It really was a productive and satisfying collaboration. John and his team also collaborated smoothly with our kitchen and cabinet designer and appliance dealers. John's approach was to be clear about division of responsibilities, but he kept an eye on everything end-to-end to ensure the whole thing would work. He cared about the quality of the outcome and understood what we wanted. Inevitably, there are surprises and problems that come up. John was simultaneously creative and practical in finding solutions, and he let us know the options along with his recommendations. When we would spot a problem, he made sure it was corrected in a timely manner. Everything worked out well in the end, on time and on budget. Even after the work was completed, when a small number of problems developed, John and his team were here to fix them. We continue to be delighted with the outcome.

We remodeled a bathroom to including putting in a walk in shower and we added a sun room to our second floor. John and his crew did a fantastic job. Items that make John different from other contractors: 1) His knowledge of construction is outstanding including architectural aesthetic details that most contractors don't think about. 2) He and his team find creative ways to install structural supports without having to do major demolition, and they actively look for ways to keep the project on budget. 3) John is personally involved in the project and is on site or available every day at any time. 4) The project stayed on timeline and budget during difficult times, and crew was on site every day except for an unforeseen delayed delivery from a supplier. Scheduling is a real strength for them. 5) John's subs are excellent (except for some issues with the painter that required some re-work). 6) John insures that you are happy with all aspects of the job before closing it out. He and staff are exceptionally customer oriented. As mentioned John and crew do excellent work. They probably won't be the least expensive, but if you're interested in top tier quality at a reasonable price they are the contractor to use. Doug Deaver, Aptos, CA

Hello! John Fuchs and his team are simply the BEST to work with! Speaking to the homeowners here, you would be nothing short of amazed at how professional and personally enjoyable the remodel/ build process can be if you were to hire John Fuchs & his stellar team for your upcoming project. John's temperament is the perfect balance of sincerity, humility, confidence, and steadfast drive. He has the ability to gets things done thoroughly, beautifully, and expeditiously all while balancing the emotional impact on the homeowners and trade partners alike. We recently finished a home in Aptos and the space just radiates beauty and quality craftsmanship which I would like to think is a direct by-product of a well-balanced GC & team/ & design. No detail was left un-covered and as an interior architectural designer, the devil is in the details, and those details either shine brilliantly or fall very, very short. Speaking to other design professionals here, John did not make any design-related decisions without my input. As always, there can be surprises once you open up a home, but he handled them in stride while always providing and explaining the many viable options for the homeowner and myself to discuss and move forward on. In my opinion, you should consider it a blessing to work with John and his team in any capacity. I look forward to completing more projects with him and his team in the future. John just sold our house for us. I couldn't be happier. John and his entire staff and contractors couldn't be better. They are professional and so easy to work with. We had a wonderful home in Rio Del Mar, but the old girl was showing her age. John transformed her into a show case. It was a stunning change. His stager, Carolyn Belardi, was phenomenal. When she was done, I wanted to move back in! I can only say, I am forever grateful John! Thank you.

I recently purchased my dream home in Aptos overlooking the ocean. The house needed a complete remodel as it had not been touched since the 1980's. This was a terrifying undertaking given I know nothing about the building industry and I am a single woman. I was introduced to John and very quickly I felt confident that his team would help me through this scary project. His words hold true " I want to be your neighbor and friend at the end of this". I did a whole house remodel and extensive deck repair. John and team's help to negotiate the Santa Cruz permit process and stayed on top of all the requests. His extensive knowledge of this area and strong network of subs really helped with the decisions making, John always had suggestions and solutions for some difficult situations we faced, he went up and beyond. One of the biggest things I appreciated was his direct and honest manner. From the beginning he came up with an estimate, and spent a lot of time going over it, and what issues could change it. When situations arose he quickly went over the issue and gave all the solutions. This also true for the timeframe. We made many changes to the original scope, and it was clearly communicated what would happen to the cost and timeframe so I could make decisions and plans. Each week we would meet and go over what was completed and what was happening that week, also a clear accounting of what was spent and if the estimates changed, again no surprises. What is a very stressful time John and team were always available and made it fun. My home is beautiful and I cant thank John and team enough.

We selected John Fuchs Properties to remodel/renovate our master bathroom and are very pleased with the completed project. John and his project coordinator (first Kori Williams and then Carrey Ward) were great to work with. They listened attentively to our projects scope, objective and thoughts, and asked appropriate questions. They also offered suggestions without trying to force our decisions one way or the other. John's employees and the sub-contractors he selected were a pleasure to work with. Overall, they did a very good to excellent job of protecting our home and cleaning up after their work. The tile work by Tom Belardi for the shower and floor is beautiful. John and/Carrey ensured a couple minor items were addressed in a timely manner. Although the project took a little longer than anticipated, this was attributed to a sub-contractor we selected for the cabinetry and was beyond John's control. Our project finished under our budget and John's estimate!! We have received many positive comments, and "oohs and aahs" about our new bathroom. We will definitely contact John for our next project.

John and his team recently did a kitchen, bath, and living room remodel and we could not be happier with how everything turned out! They completed the job on-time and on-budget. During the project, they provided regular updates regarding schedule and budget - the level of communication was excellent and there were no surprises. Their construction crew was professional, respectful and very skilled. John came up with many ideas during construction that made things turn out even better than expected. We were a bit nervous after we closed on our beachfront 3 level townhome in La Selva. The location is stunning yet tricky and the house needed a bunch of work, including structural changes including reframing the staircase, opening up the main level wall to ocean. We initially started working with another design build firm who provided a comprehensive yet expensive plan. While receiving bids from different companies, John Fuchs and company stood out in terms of their thoroughness, clarity in communication and exhibited an understanding what we were really hoping to have this property look like. Once underway, the project was a smooth sailing journey. Albeit involved, including multiple permit revisions with the city and coastal commission, John just took them in his stride and worked through them systematically. He just bears that "not a problem" attitude and carries on his work and the results speak for themselves. John also suggested a few additions along the way and helped with planning and permitting those and they turned out fantastic. Along the way John was a supportive guide, helping us make decisions on critical questions that allowed us to not compromise on the desired outcome and yet did not blow up our budget substantially. The workmanship and quality of this company's work is top-tier. Pricing is competetive and fit and finish is remarkable. The ease with which changes to plans were accommodated is commendable and the final product emerged to be simply stunning. The accounting and communication through the project was regular, transparent and precise. John and team were also very patient as we slowly meandered our way picking finishes and appliances including some crazy color requests and door finishes. Overall it was a fun, creative and stress free experience to work with him and his team. If you are looking to do a project in the Santa Cruz area, John Fuchs Construction is our unequivocal recommendation as your buiding contractor, you won't regret it!
