This veterinary practice was recently sold, and the new owners have reverted to a practice of forcing annual visits in order to receive any other services. I cannot afford the extra $79.00 on top of the flea medication and nail trims. Times two for two dogs. I adopted from the shelter and I take good care of my dogs. I miss the old veterinarian. She got it. She took care of animals where they were, and didn’t reject services to an animal because they hadn’t had an ‘annual visit’. This new place is clearly a BUSINESS.

They made my dogs nails bleed due to a normal trim and then didn’t tell me after the fact. I only noticed because he bled in my truck. These quacks hurt my boy! Don’t take your pets here.

Prior to my dog surgery we didn't have a concern with this vet clinic except they will not allow you to go into the inner office with your pet during the exam. My previous vets that was allowed. My concerns started after the post op office visit. There follow up care and communication was very poor. I had to eventually take out his stitches since his first post op they thought he had an infection. Two weeks later with no followup call I was treated rudely by the office staff when they stated he had an infection and they were going to put him on antibiotics which he didn't need because the stich wound area had heald. I asked to talk to the vet and they said she could not talk to me because she was busy with other office visits. If you have a surgical patient that was noted to have a staff infection it seems to me the vet could step out for 5 mins and discuss her findings. I think its malpractice to issue antibiotics without discussing the current condition of the animal they performed surgery on. Instead, they preferred to schedule another office visit and charge me for a consultation visit which is unusual, since it should have been included in the post op office visit that I had to pay for which is typically covered by the surgery expense. ( My understanding and experience from using other vet services and my own surgery my doctor didn't charge me because they say its part of the surgical expenses). Sadly, this is my first negative post for vets services and I have had animals for 30 plus years.

The Vets and technicians at Del Mar Hospital are wonderful, unfortunately the office manager and group that recently purchased the practice have destroyed my relationship with them. I travel with my cat frequently and this requires a health pet certification. I recently went in with my cat to get a updated health certificate and they wanted to charge me 400.00. I paid 125.00 in Nov 2023 for the same certificate. When I asked about the cost increase I was told that issuing the certificate was a lot of work. I reminded them this was a recertificate and after much discussion they reduce the cost to 225.00, which is still a 80% increase for a signature on a piece of paper. I should add this is on top of the cost of the consultation. Unfortunately I have lost my trust in the entire practice. Make sure you get quotes for the services they provide before your appointment.

If I could give negative stars, I would. We have been bringing our cat here for 16 years. Over a month ago, we brought her in for a nail trim and they told us she was due for vaccinations. We said ok because we're not vets so we trusted that they knew what they were doing. However, this sent our cat into complete misery within a week with a fever and covered in painful sores all over her body. We brought her back in and they denied that it could have had anything to do with the vaccines and instead gave her a dose of antibiotics, and steroids (which we later found out could have killed her as she has a heart condition), and told us it was an infection caused by something unrelated. At one point they even suggested it was cancer, as if that would happen overnight. She continued to get worse, so we brought her in a second time, and they told us there was no possibility it had anything to do with the vaccines and LAUGHED when she said it would take us eight months to get into a vet dermatologist (with no offer of a referral). Thankfully, we found an incredible vet office who saw us within a week and were kind and competent (complete opposite from what we had just experienced). The specialist took a biopsy of our cat's sores (without anesthesia, which del mar had suggested they use on a 16 year old cat with a heart condition) and confirmed that she had an auto immune disease (Pemphigus Foliaceous) flare up that was drug induced. It turns out that this is a very uncommon but not unheard of reaction to medicine, and in this case, from the vaccines. The proper thing to do by del mar would have been to help us report this to the FDA and obviously to have shown the slightest amount of care for our cat. Instead, they did neither of those things, and we got no callback from the doctor to check on our cat. Today, we had an appointment to see the doctor to confirm with them what we know now from a specialist and to have everything be put on our cat's file so that something like this never happens again. Again, as might have been expected at this point, they denied any possible relationship between their "care" and her misery, even in the face of a professional opinion from a dermatology specialist. $4,000 later, the doctor, Dr. Brooks McMahan, would not even come into the room. Paula, the vet tech, was completely dismissive and condescending. In a few words, our experience here was horrific, unprofessional, and caused completely unnecessary pain to a sweet 16-year-old cat, and to our family. We will NEVER be returning and we suggest others do the same. * I have attached photos of our cat's sores and how she looked when they laughed in our faces and told us "good luck" finding a specialist. and I have also attached the diagnosis from the specialist.

Also Dr McMahan suggested we put a dog with a heart murmur under anesthesia while they biopsy the growth by his ear. She then handed me a estimated cost of $2800 and added $700 to clean his teeth. Our new doctor took one look at it and said it was a benign growth and would NEVER put a dog with a heart murmur under anesthesia!

I absolutely LOVE Del Mar Pet Hospital! My dog is so excited to go every time he whines with excitement when we get down the street. My cat even falls asleep on the exam table when she's there. The staff and Drs are so friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and work with you on pricing. They are the most fair priced vet I've been to in SC county, and I've been to a lot.I'm talking $100 cheaper for a frequent shot I have to get my pup. I've been fleeced before coming here. The waiting room is inviting and clean. They even offer free teas and coffee while you wait!Ordering prescriptions is an absolute breeze and at super reasonable prices as well.I only had to wait 10 minutes for blood work to come back! I've never experienced that at a vet anywhere in this town before. You can get your results for basic panels while you're still there! They accept CARE credit and most pet insurance too.I'm very sad I only recently discovered them before I'm moving out of state.Do yourself a favor and start taking your pet to Del Mar Pet Hospital ASAP!

Called the doctor to say how my cat has been vomiting 3 days in a row. Left message for her to call me back and she never called!!! Never going back!
