I don't know how many times I have driven by the front door at Casa Oaxaca, but I decided to actually go inside today, and not just from curiosity but from memories of my visit to the city itself decades earlier. At the window you can tell there's a lot of love and respect for the city of oaxaca. Most people don't know, but this city is revered not only for its fine cuisine and introducing several types of mole to the culinary world but also its artisans in the area and the celebration of the day of the dead. And that's after you've seen the pyramids and temples that are still there from ancient civilizations. As I enter I hear Latin strings and music being sung in the background that filled the shop and gave me the feeling that I was stepping through a threshold into another world. Looking around me I see all the famous wood carvings that they're famous for that are extremely colorful and playful. Ornaments and tapestries clothing beautiful black jars for black jars. The place has thousands of items in it I'm sure. I don't know how he found room for everything in such a small space. Carlos introduced himself to me. A very warm and generous person with much information and never gets tired of questions. It was fun for me to go back through my recollections of the city And tell him why I missed it so much and will return soon. Hes from there and he nodded knowingly that I had actually found what people from there already know. If you haven't been there it should be a destination in your life. I must say I wasn't prepared to buy anything on that trip but was more of a just drop in and see but I did walk out with a couple items and I have no shame. They were fun and there's a birthday coming up and I got a couple things to give away. It was fun being in there.. I'm going to return with my wife and she'll say why I look at it with love with long thoughtful eyes. This is a great little shop on salano Avenue and I believe that it's worth a walk in if nothing else but to Marvel at all the little items that you might miss normally. And the price range varies from not expensive too very expensive depending on your taste.

Great, affordable craft from all of Mexico, plus seasonal items. If you need a quick gift that's the place.

The store had most of the things I was looking for but, over priced. The man working could use a class on customer service skills both on the phone and in person.

What a neat little shop. Maybe less Halloween this year, but great items for Day of the Dead -- and any day. Huge range of things and a wide price range. House items, jewelry, clothing and all kinds of things for gifts or for yourself. And the person, who I think is the owner, is so pleasant and low key. Worth a visit. They also have a lot of neat masks too.

Cutest little shop for Mexican home goods. They have everything from tortilla baskets to pottery to Christmas ornaments to rugs. Everything is really beautiful and reasonably priced. The store owner, Carlos, is the nicest guy! He’ll answer all your questions and even give you tips on how to properly care for your items ?

If you are searching for the finest in Mexican Folk Art and live in the San Francisco Area and beyond, Casa Oaxaca is your go-to, one-stop shop for you to visit. Also, if you have kids who enjoy rock painting, there is a new rock painting instructional book available on Amazon.com called Rock Painting For Kids Mexican Folk Art Style, by Mexican Folk Artist, Maria Sandoval.

This is Saturday. Nonessential businesses were ordered to close Monday. The owner of Casa Oaxaca must think that his gift shop is an essential business, because the store is open today. The store was also open yesterday. Or maybe he thinks that because he is an ex-cop, the rules don't apply to him. Or maybe he simply doesn't care. The owner claimed the store isn't open, but the door was open and the sign said to come in.

I looked up the hours, and it said they would be open at 10 am on Sunday. I waited until 10:30, and their business was still close. I will never recommend this place. At least put up a sign that you will not be opening, what a waste of time.

Great place to shop for gifts. We went and got a gift for a friend in a nursing home to cheer her up. Owner is super nice and can tell you all kinds of details about the products in the shop. Definitely stop here if you are in Albany and need to buy gifts.

The owner was warm and friendly, and he answered many questions we had. He also gave us interesting information about the origin and uses of the folk art we purchased. The store had beautifully carved masks, dia de los muertos figures, and tons of nichos. It will be my go to place for Mexican folk art from here on out.

I bought two Frida Kahlo art pieces here last weekend. I stopped in out of curiosity and found a lot of interesting things inside. Great little shop!
