I no longer live in Alamo but my family does and has for 20 + years!! And yes news flash there are black people that can afford to live in Alamo and Danville!!!! Everytime I enter this store I feel uncomfortable. People follow you around because you are black and also watch you religiously at the self checkout line thinking you are going to steal something it’s ridiculous! I’ve never stolen a thing in my life! My mom has experienced it and now my aunt said she just experienced it except now they have black workers doing the same thing to the customers. I was not paying attention but focused on checking my items out at the self checkout line when my aunt says during this time a black worker was watching our every move while ignoring other races by just constantly lingering around us. So I’m writing a review because I’m fed up.
I had a personal experience many years ago where I went to the register to check out my items and the lady at the register made me show my id card for my Safeway card??!!! I’ve never had to do that at any other Safeway before. I feel people at this Safeway are racist, my mom says she doesn’t even shop at this location anymore for this reason and was contemplating having it brought up on channel 2 news station if it continues that’s how uncomfortable it made her feel.

We are a large 4 generation family of shoppers with Safeway Alamo since it's original location. We grew up with this store. Now because of the amount of time required to download, search, scan and click we can no longer shop here. Tonight there was clear signage posted for prices but the register didn't ring properly. The result was being charged twice as much. It took 3 employees 12 minutes to try to decipher the original price, the sale price, the discount price, the bulk price, the ad, the app, "can you try your wifi again?", "can you turn your wifi off and try again?" can you turn on data?", "can you make your selections on the app before you come in?". Are you kidding me? This has happens, to some degree, EVERY VISIT for past 6 months. Too hard.
We slowly started making the transition to Trader Joe's and Lunardi's last summer where prices are EQUITABLE for all shoppers and you don't have to do any work with apps or wifi or scan while shopping. The Safeway employees are like community/family which makes us sad, but we don't have the time and energy it requires to shop at Safeway anymore. If we are going to be forced to pay more than others we prefer to shop at Lunardi's or Draeger's. Tonight we left our cart, said a few good-byes and drove to Danville to shop.
P.S. Our last visit to Alamo Safeway we watched an elderly woman get overcharged because she didn't have a cell phone and doesn't know how to use an app and they wouldn't honor the sale price without it. She was clearly confused, and embarrassed for holding up the line, and paid it anyway. This is despicable!

When you first enter the store, you can't believe there's such a great gourmet grocery store in a Contra Costa county suburb. It's spacious, well stocked and clean. The clientele tends to be very well heeled. But then you go to check out and you are reminded that it's a Safeway. The check out today was fairly typical: the clerk, named Debby, triple charged me for a discounted item, even after I pointed out her error before she was done ringing everything up. Then, she didn't follow my bagging instructions, and when she did, literally *threw* produce and other delicate things into my shopping bag, and gave no thought to what items were heaviest, and should go in first. It was so unprofessional in so many ways. I went to the customer service desk to speak to a manager, rang the button, and no one appeared. This was before the store got really crowded. On top of everything else, the store can't process Apple Pay, which is very strange, considering how easy it is to use Apple Pay at even small stores.

This is literally the best Safeway Store I have ever shopped in. Unfortunately, like every crab lover waiting for the Dungeness season to open I was finally able to purchase my first crabs of the season on Thursday only to get them home and find them shriveled up inside of their shells. I do not know what happened to these poor crabs but the meat was a grayish color an they were not what I would have expected for the first catch of the season. Of course the store offered to give me my money back and denied having this problem with anyone else. If anyone had this experience please let me know. I feel bad that I was the only one who had this issue. Again, this is the best Safeway Store I have ever shopped in.

It's alright as long as you don't ever do order pick up. They don't even have anyone assigned to do those so don't understand why it is even an option. They put me on hold and eventually hung up on me, which forced me to go inside after being exposed to COVID (the reason I did order pick up), and still seemed confused about order pickups until the manager himself came out to help me. He was very friendly, but spending over 30 minutes here for a "driveup and go" is quite ridiculous.
