USS Hornet, a wonderful place to take the family. Young and old can learn about aircraft carriers, the navy and what it feels like to be on a giant ship. There are several exhibitions, including one that details the recovery the apollo 11 astronauts. The Hornet also features a flight simulator that is currently closed. You have a lot of freedom to explore the ship, and you can get lost in time. It is fantastic. One of the best parts of your visit will be the Volunteers. They have many interesting stories to tell. We met a pilot today who flew missions in Vietnam on the A4. A training version of this aircraft (2 seater) is on display.Another interesting exhibition is related to the recovery of the Apollo 11/12 astronauts at sea. The hornet played a major role brining the astronauts home. There are many airplanes, helicopters, bombs and military equipment on display. All include detailed information for you take in. Take advantage of it by planning a visit soon. The prices are reasonable. Adult $20, Student $15 and kids under 12 only pay $10.Another bonus! The flight deck offers amazing views of San Francisco and Oakland. There is ample free parking.

We were looking for something fun to do in the Bay Area and came across this on yelp. I really can't believe I haven't been here. First parking is free! You're literally boarding a ship it was so cool. I had two adults and one child in my party. The price was $40. My son was free and he's 5. I loved how you literally got to explore the entire ship on your own. You got a feel for real history and how they lived. You can even go outside it was very nice. There's a ton on walking do wear walking shoes. If anyone you know is into history this is a great gift. I highly recommend coming here even if you have no kids this is a fun activity for all ages. There was a man who gave my son a pin with wings it was so special. This is a must stop if you're in the Bay Area.

Great museum for WW2 and military geeks. 20$ per adult but you need to pay more if you want to go up the captain's deck. There are planes, choppers, jets and even the Apollo 11 shuttle over here. Workers are very nice too. Please come here to support this museum so they can keep it running

Spent overnight on the ship with our scout pack. It was an amazing experience and a really cool look into such a historic ship. Lou Somontes was our guide/docent and you could tell he truly loved teaching people about the ship and history. His experience in the navy, on this and other ships made for a tour that felt like a VIP tour. Highly recommend.

USS Hornet fought many crucial battles in the War of the Pacific. Now it sits in the harbor of Alameda for generations to remember its greatness.

Did an overnight hunt on October 20th this year and everything was amazing. Faye and Steve were absolutely wonderful and lead us the entire way. We were fed dinner which is pretty unusual for most of the overnight tours I've done and was a welcomed surprise. We were able to sleep in the barracks and had a lot of access. It was an amazing time and we will definitely be back.

Amazing experience for the family. Far more than you can see in a day! All ages we're interested, and the docents were incredible.

It was truly an awe-inspiring experience, seeing and touching a vessel that played such a pivotal role in the Pacific Theater of WWII. I was personally most excited about visiting the USS Hornet CV-12 because of her involvement in Operation Ten-Go, which sunk the massive Japanese battleship Yamato. The static displays of aircraft on the hangar-deck are beautifully maintained and lovingly displayed. I've seen countless documentaries on naval aviation and was completely unaware of the size difference between the FM-2 Wildcat and the TBM-3E Avenger. The Avenger is HUGE!!! I had no idea. I was genuinely impressed. You could walk the fight-deck and see all the aircraft on display on the hangar-deck in about an hour, but if you go below decks and explore the rest of the ship, you could easily spend 3 1/2 to 4 hours exploring everything. Every volunteer we spoke with was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. Please make a generous donation to the USS Hornet Sea, Air, and Space museum. She served her country well. We owe it to the old girl to keep her afloat and looking fierce.

So much history and so close to home! We just did the standard entry for $20 and I was absolutely amazed at how much of the ship we were allowed to wander through on our own. Learning about the USS Hornets involvement in the Apollo Lunar missions was fascinating. You can't go wrong spending the afternoon here!

Title: A Trip Back in Time with Modern Amenities - USS Hornet Museum ??????Review:Visiting the USS Hornet - Sea, Air and Space Museum in Alameda was an incredible experience. Located at 707 W Hornet Ave, this museum offers a fascinating glimpse into maritime and military history, all the while being surrounded by modern-day amenities.I went there primarily for a photoshoot, and let me tell you, the backdrop couldn't have been better. The ship itself is a majestic sight, a true representation of American craftsmanship and ingenuity. What's equally great is the variety of food and drink options nearby. The area has a multitude of breweries and eateries that serve up delicious treats, making it a full-day outing.Just a heads up: Many of the breweries operate only on weekends, so plan your visit accordingly.Overall, the USS Hornet is a must-visit. It's not just a museum; it's an experience that combines historical learning with present-day fun.Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5

Stayed for one of their overnight programs (Grey Ghost Paranormal Conference), where ghost hunters can bring their tools/tech, hear from keynote speakers, get dinner/breakfast catered, and sleep in your very own bunk. Highly recommend (whether a regular day trip or one of their community programs)... really cool history and fun experience!

For 20$ general Addmission! I am always honored to visit the USS Hornet! She will pull the heart strings for any history buff. If you love America, go! If you're a tourist, go. If you like fitness, go. Do not go and expect that steel beauty to be nice to your knees! You can go over and over and still not see every part of the ship. I suggest going to support all the hard-working people, mostly vets. Most is volunteer work, too.. The USS Hornet will give you a greater appreciation for our Navy and the men and woman who help you keep your freedom!

I loved this place. I think I visited once as a kid but I'm not quite sure. Either way this was a great museum to learn about the Hornet, her crew and the missions she went on. The staff therebare very knowledgeable of the ship and are very friendly. Would recommend to any history buffs and anyone wanting to know more about ships and aircraft.

This was fun and interesting to visit. We love learning new things and history. As soon as you walk in you're greeted with a warm welcome. Then you get to watch this short video about the USS Hornet. Once the video is over one of the veterans provides information on where you roam freely and the guided tours. He also gave directions on where the bathrooms were.Once we left the introduction, we began to explore. You get to walk around the engine room, living quarters, and so much more! Keep in mind this museum is not like others where you can just breathe through. This museum is an event. Also, they do have hot food and snacks if you get hungry. We didn't get any food though. There's a small gift shop and plenty of photo opportunities.Heads up! If you're not comfortable walking around and/or climbing stairs, this could be a challenge to explore the entire USS Hornet. The host for our introduction made a great point, the vessel is "created for young 19yrs olds".....lol And let me tell you...he wasn't lying ??
