Racist!
My mom (Hispanic) had a terrible experience here today (April 25th 2024). She mentioned that she was only going to buy some cookware. Before going to the kitchen section she passed by the clothes. She grabbed one pant (worth $6.99) and her wrist started to hurt since she has arthritis so she went to the front with the pant to grab a cart. The security (Asian) and another person that work there surrounded her like if she was going to go running stealing the pant. She said she was walking normally, grabbed the cart and ignored them.
The security started following my mom all over the store to a point where she started going to random places just to mess around with the people following her. While paying at the front all her cookware the cashier (Asian) threw a sensor in her bag while she was paying — she said she saw him do it but acted like she didn’t.
She then proceeded to walk out when the sensor started beeping. She went back and a lady (Asian) started to check the bag then a male walked passed them with a full backpack (no shopping bags) and the sensor stands started to beep but the lady let him go stating that it was my mom’s bag and he just smirked and looked at the cashier and the cashier looked the other way. When the lady noticed my mom only had cookware and she found the sensor (that’s usually on clothes and shoes) she let my mom go saying thank you for shopping at Ross.
This is the third time my mom has had a racist experience here at the Alameda Ross.

They WERE NOT open until 10pm as posted. We drove there. Only saw 1 employee. Front door locked. Gates down!

Ross is a great place for reasonable prices on clothing, furniture, toys, Holiday items. They are competitive, great parking, and easy checkout. They also have an Amazon locker on site. Very happy with this store. Customer safety taken seriously.

Ummmm this Ross has a whole bunch of inventory but at the same time, they really didn't have anything. I would not be surprised if the staff hid items for themselves. Considering how busy the store was, I was surprised there was no line, which confirms my speculation of the store not having good items. On this particular afternoon, they were trying out a new security system. You had to wait for security let you into the store. Which made ZERO sense. It's not like there was a capacity issue. They claim they wanted to flow people into the store slowly. Meanwhile, the issue isn't people entering the store, the concern would be people exiting with unpaid merchandise. Stalling customers from entering is ridiculous to me.
