A little late post. I was planning to adopt a dog but was waiting until I bought a house, When I heard about all the pets flying in from Maui several months ago, after the Lahaina fire, I decided to adopt early. When I saw the photo of my beautiful Ashley, even though she wasn't from Maui, I had to meet her. I walked Ashley twice before fostering her, then after a month we adopted. All the staff at FAAS were helpful. Steve, who was Ashley's person before me, was very helpful. They answered all my questions and were even helpful after adoption. I brought Ashley back to visit a couple times in the months after and she was happy to see Steve, but it because obvious that she was so used to me that she was not into visiting anymore. I'm happy she got to say a finale goodbye before Steve retired. We're five months in and my Ashley is acclimating beautifully. We've had our ups and downs, but I adore her and happy to give her a Furever home. Ashley is very happy too.Thank you FAAS for making adoption an easy transition.Blessings!

We lost a rabbit back in September. We found another lion head rabbit at this shelter. We drove 3 hours for him. He is so sweet and the shelter neutered him and held him for us. We are absolutely in love with our new pet. We are hoping to bond him with our resident rabbit. Thank you for our new baby.

The staff members are rude, unaccommodating, and downright insensitive. They act as though they are above everyone around them, believing that they are entitled to treat people however they see fit. When you attempted to adopt a cat, they blatantly discriminated against you and refused to even discuss the adoption process, all because of your ethnicity. They even went as far as to take the cat from your arms in a rough manner, demonstrating the lack of care for the animals in their own premises. This is not just unacceptable, it is appalling. Everyone deserves the same love and respect, especially those who are in need of a home. To turn away potential adopters simply because of the color of their skin is beyond comprehension. To additionally treat the poor cat in such a distasteful manner is appalling. I urge everyone to avoid this shelter at all costs. There are plenty of other shelters in the area that will treat you and the animals with the respect and care they deserve. Please, do not support this shelter in any way. Instead, show your love and support to the many other shelters that are doing their best to find loving homes for all the animals in need.Wishing you all the best in your search for a furry companion,

The review is not for the entire establishment. But primarily to the director of this establishment who treated me with utter disrespect when I brought an animal for care. He acted extremely hateful and immature, in an extremely unprofessional manner to someone who did nothing wrong to deserve such treatment, when I just asked for a permission and instructions because he is the director trying to do things right when I wanted to volunteer to walk a dog- only because I wanted to be useful while I had to wait until it was my turn to be seen. He was clearly having a bad day and hated that my question "bugged" him and loudly exclaimed "why I was bugging him if I already asked other staff members". Thanks to his position of power in the establishment, he felt entitled to kick me out of the building for calling out his attitude towards me disrespectful and immature when he had no right to treat the public like this and he had no right to deny service to the animal I brought in. The staff at the reception was a witness and she was shocked. Everyone else was so nice and accomodating, but this man was one the worst people I had to encounter in a long time. Please be careful with this man who I have witnessed in more than one occasion act hateful and vengeful towards people even though he may seem to love animals. I also observed dogs display obvious signs of discomfort and unease in his presence. If possible, talk with other members of staff. People should not bring in their personal emotional issues to their work place, especially when they are in a position of power. Also, please note-this shelter is not a nokill shelter. They have decided to put down trainable dogs without consulting with the care staff who knew more about their behavior. They make no effort or use any budget to train the dogs to make them more adoptable. One would expect more from a wealthy Bay Area shelter than just keeping them alive in very small and isolated units with no time to learn to socialize properly. The amount of non recycled trash they generate everyday is also embarrasing. This is not an environmentaly conscious place, even though they do obviously care for the animals. It is fair to say this shelter is friends to the animals but not friends to the humans in general.

We rescued the sweetest boy who filled our home with sunshine from here. He had to get surgery before adoption for his condition feline Entropion which was fully covered by the shelter. The Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter gave Finn (bubbles) a second chance at life!

My visit to Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) was driven by the desire to welcome a furry friend into our family. Although we didn't find our perfect match this time, the experience left a lasting impression. FAAS is a commendable organization dedicated to helping animals find loving homes, nursing them back to health, and ensuring their well-being. Their commitment to this noble cause shines through in every aspect of their operation.Upon arriving at FAAS, it was evident that the shelter's primary focus is the animals. The dedicated staff and volunteers work tirelessly to provide a nurturing environment, fostering the recovery and rehabilitation of their furry residents. Their genuine care for the animals is palpable, and it's heartwarming to witness their efforts in action. While we were unable to adopt the particular cat we had fallen in love with, I admired FAAS's thorough adoption process. They prioritize the well-being of both the animals and potential adopters, offering a trial period to ensure compatibility and a good fit. This approach demonstrates their commitment to finding forever homes where both the animal and the family can thrive together.Aside from adoption, FAAS offers various avenues for animal lovers to make a positive impact. They actively seek volunteers who are passionate about animal welfare, providing an opportunity to contribute to their cause firsthand. Additionally, FAAS welcomes individuals who are willing to board animals temporarily, providing them with a safe and nurturing environment until a permanent home is found. These efforts highlight the organization's dedication to the animals' welfare and the strong sense of community they foster.During my visit, I couldn't help but notice the adorable bunnies in need of forever homes. FAAS's commitment to helping various animals extends beyond cats and dogs, and their efforts to find loving families for these cute bunnies are truly commendable. If you're considering adding a bunny to your family, FAAS is the perfect place to find your new companion. In summary, Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter is an organization driven by a genuine passion for animal welfare. While our adoption journey may not have ended as planned, the experience showcased FAAS's commitment to finding loving homes for their animals, nursing them back to health, and providing ongoing support. Their volunteer programs and temporary boarding options further demonstrate their dedication to the cause. If you're in search of a furry friend or wish to support a worthy cause, I highly recommend visiting FAAS and witnessing their compassionate efforts firsthand.

It is always so rewarding to support FAAS with donations of towels, sheets, cash, or whatever special items are requested. Staff is friendly and helpful, especially when a wandering stray needs to be chip-checked and restored to its home and forever family. FAAS is a worthy organization doing great work on behalf of Alameda’s needy little critters.
