November 2023 by The Wayward Nurse
We just visited here November 5th, 2023. For some reason Google said it was closed, but they were open. We had a great tasting, the staff are very friendly and chatted with us the whole tasting. They appear to mainly have imported wines, but the bottles are amazingly priced. If you're a fan of the Spanish wine Tempranillo they have a great bottle here!

Free Wine Tasting/Friendly Staff What first drew me to Dancing Coyote was their name--sounding whimsical and Southwestern. When we drove up to their site, I wasn't really sure where it was located as the existing buildings looked like old industrial buildings, not your standard winery and tasting room. My partner and I guessed it had been a granary--it was built in 1868 right next to the raIlroad tracks, and was later converted into a winery in the early 1900s. Back then that initial winery became famous for their Port, and also made vinegar and brandy. We sat at the tables outside. I asked the server if anyone was living in the tall granary tower because we had noticed that the windows looked like they were fitted with stained glass. She answered with a chuckle, that only ghosts live there. Dancing Coyote has an interesting history. It is family run, and they have been farming the Delta region for five generations. They grow and harvest the grapes. They also do the crushing, aging and handcrafting the final product. The winemaker uses natural wild yeast that derives from the surfaces of the grapes to actually ferment the products on the flight that we tasted - they were really good and yummy on their own natural merits with a bright finish. Of course, I had to run around and experience this winery's own unique brand with my own eyes and camera in hand. There were several fig trees in which I found a perfectly ripe fig to eat. There was was this orange stuff "growing" on some of the outside walls that I had to touch, and then scratch my head because I couldn't figure out what it was. Near the fig trees, hidden from the eyes of most.of the two-leggeds that visit the winery, is a diagram painted on a rather large propane tank. Who painted it? Was it a human that "dances with coyotes"? I tried and tried to duplicate the dance that the artist painted on the tank. The trickster that painted that mural is probably laughing at the thought of people trying to follow the dance diagram. Their flights were FREE!!! There were four different wines included: 3 whites and 1 red. I usually prefer drinking red over white, however, there was something uncommon with their white wines--a certain kind of freshness/aliveness. I really liked how it felt in my mouth. After tasting those wines she brought three more wines for us to taste. We fell in love with their 2016 Loureiro - a Portuguese varietal. They had a special for $48 for a case, and we snatched it up in a heartbeat. We plan to return in our next visit to the Lodi wine making region to the same place, and see what other new vinicultural gifts that they have to offer us.

The first wine I ever had from Dancing Coyote was their Albariño, about a decade ago. That put them on my radar. Having been to northwestern Spain (Galicia), Albariño is one of the common local wines and simply delicious. My wife and I both enjoyed Dancing Coyote's version. We went and visited the winery. We enjoy wineries that produce good wines that are a good value. Dancing Coyote fits that bill very well. You get a lot of bang for the buck. If their case specials appeal to you, then it is an even bigger bang for the buck. We go to the Lodi area several times a year, visit multiple wineries, and more often than not, leave Dancing Coyote with more than a case of wine. The tasting room staff is incredibly friendly and you will enjoy your experience there. If you go only to taste, the tasting fee is $5, but if you buy a bottle, that is waived. This is the antithesis of some Napa wineries where the tasting fee is $50, and you would need to buy multiple cases to get that waived. There is a reason I no longer go to Napa to taste wines. If you are looking for something a bit more real and grounded in the wine rather than in the name and reputation, go give Dancing Coyote a visit. The worst that will happen is that you will sample six or more wines, chat with very friendly staff, and pay $5/person. If you appreciate the wine and the value, then you will leave with wines that are a very good value, and have a winery that you will want to revisit.

We visited Dancing Coyote this past Saturday and had a great time. The tasting room staff, particularly Breanna, were great! Both were very hospitable and friendly. The tasting room is quite large, which was nice since we had a bigger group. There's also a couple of picnic benches in the shade outside that would be nice for an outdoor lunch.

WOW WOW WOW! I visited Dancing Coyote this past weekend with a large group and the ladies in the tasting room were awesome! They were very attentive to the group I was with which is very sweet since I know large parties aren't always ideal for wineries. They gave me a private table for my party and every shared cake and wine cubes with my party in addition to the tastings. Great wine and GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Loved, Loved, Loved everything about this place! The ambiance, tasting room staff and the wines themselves were exceptional and so reasonably priced compared to many Lodi wineries. Came in with several friends during Memorial Day weekend, and purchased a case of wine, as did a few of my friends. So happy we discovered Dancing Coyote, we'll be back!

We discovered this winery while taking a wine tasting tour. Before we left we purchased a couple of bottles of wine to try at home. A few months later we returned to try another set of wines and buy more wine. We learned that one of the wines we wanted to buy had sold out! A few more tastings and we picked two more wines for the Christmas Party. Since then we have gone back for more wine.
