This is a very interesting place to shop on Main Street in Vancouver. I was looking for dried fruits and found more choice here than in any other store I'd been in.

I love welks! They have a huge variety of items (they are a general store). I love just browsing the aisles. My fav aisle is the kitchen one with all the kitchen tools, kitchen gadgets you wouldn't think you need and special glasses.
I like that they have quite a bit of selection for eco-friendly things for household products, cleaning, dental and beauty. They also have food, games, garden supplies and books. It is quite a small space as the aisles are narrow so when it get busy it gets too crowded. Their products are on the pricier side but they are good quality things.
Overall, Welks is a great store and I don't come here often because if I do I would buy almost the whole store. If I worked there I would be in debt. When I do come and shop, it is an enjoyable experience

It looks like a dollar store but it is not because products are of high quality. It is really good. It could be sometime pricey but everything is up these days.

This is theeee place to get candles. Also people assume that everything here is overpriced, and while some of it is, there’s also a lot of stuff that is really really cheap. I got like 800 toothpicks for like $2 or something. And I got some silicone brushes for cooking for like $5 for a set of 2. Overall this is a great shop and also sooo perfect for buying birthday presents etc for people

Always love coming here. It has everything from soap to puzzles to kids’ utensils to screws. It’s like a fancier dollar store that has trendy brands like Blume, Owala and Baggu too. We easily spent 30mins here.

The best general store with shelves full of fun things from cooking utensils and peanut butter to toothpaste and laundry soap, lovely greeting cards and candles to duct tape and bike accessories, tons of great gift-giving ideas. Great spot for a leisurely day as you'll want to peruse every aisle to discover all the gems.

I’m shocked and appalled by the aggressive behaviour I was subjected to by a particular staff member today whilst browsing, hoping to in future buy some things for our house.
My partner and I were minding our own business perusing the store, picking up the occasional product to inspect then putting it back down on the shelf and moving on, when a woman in unassuming clothing came up to me aggressively insisting I had a Kinto water bottle, available for purchase in store, in my bag, and that I should open my bag to show her the contents.
When I opened my bag to reveal no Kinto, there was no apology, she simply said ‘oh’ and stormed off, with no explanation as to her aggressive attitude.
I hadn’t even looked at the Kinto bottles, I had in fact been browsing the Nalgene bottles on the same aisle, and had put all the bottles I’d picked up back on the shelf where found.
It was only when I raised the issue further, in floods of tears, that the woman who’d taken the bottle in question miraculously pulled it out of her tote bag at the register, claiming she had intended to purchase it.
The worker in question tried to argue that she’d only asked to see inside my bag, not that she’d accused me of stealing, despite the implications being entirely the same.
I left the store in tears and sat in a nearby park crying for over half an hour, as I suffer with extreme social anxiety due to autism.
I will say that the gentleman I approached and later spoke to on the phone was much more compassionate, and very apologetic.
A really big shame and disappointment, as moments prior to this my partner and I had been discussing how much we liked the store and how we’d love to come back to purchase multiple items at a later date.

Falsely advertises at a lower price online and doesn’t honour the price in store. Will never shop there again.

Warning to Shoppers
The customer service is horrible, and, as other users have commented, I felt uncomfortable during a store visit last month and felt the need to document. The store owner and another worker were following me or "lurking" behind me with a watchful eye. I was simply perusing the aisles and never once touched or lifted an item. Because of their behavior, I decided to leave the store. In my opinion, there was no reason to target me, as I wasn't carrying any bags except for my tote, which only had my wallet in it. Perhaps they recognized me from previous visits and didn't like it. Nevertheless, the store owner and worker's behavior made me feel very uncomfortable and unwelcomed.
I frequent the Main Street neighborhood often because there are many lovely local shops with great curated items. I love to window shop to get ideas for gifts and then buy later, as I am cost-conscious and like to do my research on an item and to find a local retailer with the lowest price since most items at Welk's are heavily marked up. There have been times when I have visited Welk's and purchased various items due to an immediate need or due to availability, and other times I have gone just to peruse. Unfortunately, after this experience, I don't think I will come here again, as it is not worth giving up my dignity and respect.
Perhaps they have had some theft in the store, but I am sure it's not more than any other store on Main Street (or any commercial business, for that matter). This is a safe and family-friendly neighborhood—these antics aren't necessary and never warrant making loyal customers feel uncomfortable or like they are being watched. I've noticed security cameras in the store, so if they are so concerned, they can watch the security footage more discreetly instead. Surely there are other ways to deter theft if that's their concern. I understand that owning a business has its risks and the cost of doing business includes unwanted theft (unfortunately), but there needs to be a fine balance to avoid upsetting your customers.
