I’ve been going to Spartacus Gym for the past 10 years. The equipment is always in top shape, and they keep the place clean and organized. Over the years, they’ve maintained a great variety of machines and free weights, making it easy to switch up my routine. Plus, the pricing has always been incredibly fair for what you get. It’s just a solid, reliable gym that’s helped me stay on track with my fitness goals for a decade!

I had the best experience checking this place out yesterday morning. The manager, Samantha, is kind, helpful, and was very clear when answering all of my questions. Memberships, payment and all, are very straightforward and extremely reasonable considering what you get. I have friends that have been coming here for years and rave about it so I am excited to finally be within walking distance to this hidden gem! I will be signing up as soon as I am back from a trip in a few weeks :)

I was looking forward to revisiting Spartacus Gym, a place I trained at back in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, our experience did not go beyond the help desk.
The trip to Spartacus was meant to be an introduction for my 18-year-old nephew to the gym world I once knew. However, our visit was cut short when we were turned away at the door. Despite having my ID, a credit card, and a debit card ready to pay for a full week's membership for both of us, my nephew's digital ID and lack of DEBIT card posed a problem.
Our negative experience at Spartacus led us next door to Olympus Gym, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Olympus is cool, clean, cheaper, and offers excellent service. Save yourself the headache!

I had a 1 week pass here to try it out. I decided I wouldn't be joining the gym but it's not because it's not good. I think the gym is great.
For being a bit on the small side, it's got all the equipment and space you need to get a great workout in. The building is old, there's only one bathroom stall in the women's locker room, and you can't do any dynamic movements like sled work, and there's no platforms for oly lifts... but if you are bodybuilding or powerlifting, or just general strength training, you've got everything you need. The equipment isn't necessarily new and shiny, but it doesn't need to be. You're at a gym to lift weights, not to admire the scenery! My previous gym didn't have a hack squat machine so that was nice to play with. They've also got a V grip dip station which you don't see everywhere. A soleus raise machine which you might not think about normally, but so cool there's one there. The fly machine was a bit weird though because my chest isn't necessarily very strong but I was able to max out the machine... the weight plates are all over the place and mismatching and wear and tear on them, but they work! Unsure how much variance in actual measured weight they'd be though. The old school fixed weight barbells are super cool. The cages/racks, bench racks, and deadlift platforms aren't pretty but perfectly functional.
Vibes are good too. People seem nice enough. It gets fairly busy at peak hours but in off hours it's real nice, feel like you get plenty of space to work. Peak hours it feels very cramped though. There's also martial arts classes offered here I didn't get to try any of it out but I think that's super cool too.
In the end I'm considering my own needs of travel time, budget, availability and quality of equipment, vibes, etc. and decided I won't be signing up here, but I'd have no trouble recommending it to others based on my short experience here.

Worked out there recently after being gone for a few years. There is an undeniable charm to this gym. It’s old school, in a good area and generally speaking has everything you need. That said, the memberships are radically overpriced compared to what you get. This place is charging rates higher than gyms with exponentially more equipment/included benefits. Location is not an appropriate excuse to charge those prices on what is essentially a better than average community centre gym

I have been a member of countless gyms throughout my life. Some have been good, some have been not so good, but of them all Spartacus Gym is my favorite. The gym culture is fantastic which starts with owners, carries over to the staff and is seen in the clientele. I love coming here and for as long as I live in East Vancouver, Spartacus Gym will always be my gym of choice. Thanks guys, keep up the awesome work.

manager Gwin is rude and behaves rudely with customers, I do not recommend it. I wanted to buy wine, I gave them documents, and they asked me for a credit card

I used to work out here and I can’t really recommend it. Staff are unhelpful, it feels cramped and poor ventilation. I also recently read a review Spartacus Gym gave to a martial arts supply store and it seemed really nasty. That doesn’t seem like a good way to do business so that inspired my review here.

Awful experience. Gym equipment old. Gym dirty. Women’s washroom smells like armpit every moment of the day, don’t think it has ever been properly cleaned. Save your money, there is a better gym just down a block.

Best gym in town! Old school independent gym with awesome owners and members. Has a real community spirit which is tough to find these days?

Subject: Unpleasant Experience
I recently had a disappointing experience at Spartacus Gym . The staff's attitude was unhelpful, and I felt disrespected during my visits. Additionally, there were cleanliness issues and noticeable equipment maintenance problems. I hope the management can address these concerns promptly to improve the overall gym experience.

Been going for awhile. Good gym, friendly staff and great vibe. Only real complaint is that it would be great if weekend times where the same as weekday times. Or it would be even better if it was open 24hrs. 8am - 8pm makes it’s hard to schedule a workout if you have work or other commitments.
