I spoke to the woman on the phone that I was looking for a specific Gucci red and green bezel replacement ring. She said they have several in the store. I told her that I would have to take a day off to visit their store, as they are closed on weekends. I came to the store on Friday and spoke to the same lady. She pointed to this cabinet and said those are what we have. I was very disappointed as none of them were the Gucci green and red bezel replacing ring. She then replied that she didn't have a picture for reference. Well, then she shouldn't say on the phone that they have it in the store. I was very unhappy, as I had wasted my time and money to travel to the store. I will never buy or give them my business. They will say anything to get you in the door, so you will buy something else.

$20 to have my battery replaced. It lasted no more than 4-6 weeks. I'm sure had I gone back they would have told me it needed repair and charge me an insane amount.I usually go to the place in Denman mall for battery replacements. He charges $10 and the batteries last years. I just went back and had him replace the dud this place sold ne. He said there's nothing wrong with the watch and replaced the battery on the spot.*photo is of where I recommend people go. Denman st.

I went to John Hiew as my watch has stopped working and I assumed it was the battery having not had it changed in while. Whilst I was waiting for them to inspect my watch there was another customer in the shop (also having requested her battery be changed), and she was told by someone working there that the issue was not a battery and that the mechanics of the watch needed to be looked at, requiring a full service of $95. She agreed to the service and left. After she had gone, I was told exactly the same thing, that it wasn't the battery of the watch causing the issue and that it would require a full service costing $95 for the mechanics of the watch to be looked at. I was suspicious of this coincidence and so took it to somewhere else to check that it wasn't indeed the battery. Having taken it elsewhere, they confirmed that it was the battery that was dead, changed it for $20 in 15 minutes and the watch is now working perfectly. I'm not sure if this was an innocent error (maybe a batch of faulty batteries) or a deliberate attempt to mislead customers to get more money but either way I would have been paying significantly more than I needed to to get this fixed. Will not be returning.

‼️Scammer Alert‼️I came in to get a new band for my watch. The shop owner took my old band and spent a lot of time to find the only band within the size and colour I needed. He came back and gave me a band, didn't provide me a chance to try it on, then charged me $38.79. With all the positive reviews I was under the assumption this is an honest business. After that, he did not return my genuine Orient watch buckle either. When I tried on the watch I noticed that it doesn't fit me at all, as the band is way too short. I came back at the next availability 3 days after purchase with the watch band and receipt to get my buckle back and get a refund or return for store credit, but the shop owner and his wife both denied me a return saying it's "government policy" that they don't accept returns. I don't understand how one can try on the band at the store but if you try it on after stepping there's no return, despite no wear and tear.Anyway it's about $40 to throw this brand new, unused watch band in the trash and find a new honest watch shop to sell me a new band because this place surely isn't it.What's sad is that I have just moved to the neighbourhood and I had introduced myself to them and was saying that I am looking forward to coming to them for all of my future watch/clock needs, only to be disappointed by what seemed like a lovely hard-working couple. What a bummer.

They said my watch was too old and wouldn’t even consider trying to fix it. I’ll try somewhere else

Excellent service! I recently had a wall clock stop keeping time properly, so I went on the hunt to find a repair shop. I would never have expected to find a clock repair shop right downtown Vancouver on the Granville strip. John Hiew replaced the mechanism and repaired a peeling cardboard panel all for a very reasonable price. The work was completed within a few days and the clock works perfectly now. Communication by email was quick and easy. I'm grateful there are repair shops like this still around so that we can extend the lives of objects rather than throwing them out. Highly recommend!

I came here with 9 watches that needed battery change -- I know, that seems like a lot, but I like watches. I live in Seattle, but there aren't many small independent watch/clock repair shops around where I live, and this shop sounded like a gem from the yelp reviews. And it was. I randomly walked in with 9 watches past 5 pm on Friday (one of them was a little more complicated), and Mr. Hiew told me they could be ready by noontime on Monday. Wow. I've walked into a pretty well-known jeweler (B*n Bri**es) by where I live, and they'd say, "We'll call you when it's ready" (which is like a week later) or sometimes even "We have to send this out." But no nonsense like that here. It's all business. Love it.I went back a little after lunchtime on Monday, and sure enough, they were ready and packaged, with detailed description of each watch written down. This man is dedicated to watches and clocks. He's even wearing a Renata mask. (I've never even seen a Renata mask. He must be a good customer.) In case you don't know (like one previous reviewer), Renata batteries are what's considered most reliable and long lasting. They're used in the likes of Rolex (Oysterquartz), Tag Heuer and Breitling. Renata batteries cost a little more, but if your shop uses them despite the cost, you know they care.I paid 15 CAD for 8 of the watches and 25 CAD for the more complicated one. I'm a happy camper. In Seattle they charge more and do less (they'd say things like, "...and waterproofing would be extra charge").An unassuming shop that doesn't even have a sign outside, but has customers coming back? That's my kind of shop. I'll definitely come back when I'm in town.

I've been going here for almost 10 years and he does great work - from battery change, to fixing my automatic watches. His price is decent, not cheap but not too expensive in comparison to other places in downtown. John and his wife are trustworthy and their repair times are reasonable.
