Armando (I think that's his name) is super awesome... but send the man and the rest of your hard working team more help before Christmas! I was lining up the weekend before Halloween and the line up wrapped around 3/4 of the store. Any Dollar store can clearly afford more help, and the 2 working up front are burning the midnight oil. Good variety of items though, but maybe not as good as the City Square Dollar store.

Wow that is crazy so I turn on the Google map thing I went to go look up a store and without saying or typing a single word it went straight to Dollar tree. At this exact location that I was about to look up. On my brand new phone with little history of me. Anyways...I LOVE this place! Since my 'home' store closed at Pender & Main my life is one big inconvenience. Having to catch a bus to FiveDollarama sucks, as does holding back fists as I watch the East Hastings Gaugers gauge me yet again. $4 bottle of imitation Vitamin Water? I don't think so. $8 bottle of generic shampoo? That cost YOU, GAUGERS, $1.50, like everyone else who bought it at Dollar Giant/Tree? Grrr... So then I discovered THIS STORE!! OPEN TILL 10 !!!! THANK YOU LORD!

the security guard stares and gives a mean look to everyone when they walk in, makes me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable.

This place is trash. But it could be worse like some other businesses so 2/5 it is.I came in here to grab something to eat. Got a dried fruit mix, ginger ale, and a bag of chips. The line seemed long, back to the cooler. I saw two lights on for two different cash registers but only one cashier, a middle-aged Asian man. After a couple of minutes, I wanted to ask him to call someone else to the front because the lineup was so slow, but the man in front of me with a little boy was as tall or taller than me and I didn't want to yell into his ear so I waited a couple of more minutes before calling, "Can you call someone else to the front?" Nothing. A couple of moments later, "Can you call another cashier?" The Asian cashier was completely unresponsive, as if I hadn't said anything.Minutes later, a white woman about the same age comes to the other till and for two or three minutes seems to accomplish nothing as she focuses on the till. Eventually, she calls for the next customer. By this time, there were only two or three people in front of me.When I finally got to his till I asked "What happened?" He told me the other person was on a break. So he heard me just fine and ignored me instead of calling back, "I'm the only cashier on. The other one's on her break."My three items came to $5.51, so I paid in cash with a $20 bill and two quarters. He gave me back two $5 bills, two toonies, and a loonie, touching my hand with his clammy hand, which was disgusting, as I didn't know whether he had sweaty palms or it was something else. I didn't quite have the nerve or will to ask what it was or tell off this sorry excuse for a human being so I left, infuriated by such a degrading experience. You are likely to be degraded by coming to this dollar store. Most of the time in my experience, it's been fine, but too many times now, they've failed to show basic consideration and passively punished me for being initiated. This place and the people who work here are stupid, lazy, and disgusting.Once, a young Indian woman stayed on the phone for the entirely of running my three items through, making me wait about 20 seconds before she began, eventually putting down the phone while whoever was on the other end continued to speak. The next time I saw her, instead of giving me a quarter in change, she gave me five nickels, so this place isn't ready to deal properly in cash and people here are too stupid, lazy, and apathetic to keep up a cash float hours before they close, like this evening. While it didn't seem an especially bad experience at the time, a few days ago, the older white man at the door talked to me for several minutes about his past career in record producing. I didn't want to be rude and interrupt him but I think it was actually an abuse my courtesy to keep me rooted to the spot while he talked about stuff well beyond light, passing conversation on my way out the door. What you save in dollars and cents here will be taken out of you in the form of time and your sense of self-worth. Dollar Tree clearly has no interest in doing the job properly and will cut corners in their service to deliberately save them money at your expense. If you're not some poor, desperate loser, or if your time is actually worth something more than the pitiful savings are worth, you probably shouldn't come here. Don't be so cheap that you let your day be ruined by the mindless losers who work here, these soul-sucking parasites that don't care enough to reply when you ask that they do what they should have done before you lined up.I think the world would be better off without dollar stores like this.
