I've been going to this place for over 20 years. I've bought a few things from them.... Yes the prices are not what you expect when you realize how much they paid out for these things, or how much they made on interest with things on loan. But it is a retail store and they do have to make money. How else can they do this other than buy low, sell high? The prices are fair, considering, pretty much average retail or slightly lower.
One thing I can also say is that they are secure and trustworthy. Most of my visits there over the years have been to get a temp loan on a valuable item. I'm never happy about the interest rates charged, but I know my item is safe and sound in their keeping. When I pay off the loan, my things is returned completely as it was when I left it. Never any thefts or funny business. As far as pawn shops go, they seem very honest, and the staff seems to consist of the same 4 or 5 guys constantly. Never anyone new. So I doubt they'd have been here this long, or have such loyal staff, if they had to a bad reputation over shady dealings.
Friendliness? Eh..... That means different things to different people. Some of the guys working there are definitely not the most gregarious people on the planet, but being quiet and reserved does NOT equal being unfriendly. Also, everyone has a bad day occasionally. It's a pawn shop, the clerks have all been working there for years, they're not young twenty somethings....Face it, they are not going to have the sales energy of a new puppy. All I know is that reserved or bubbly, every single guy has been courteous, efficient and professional with me, every single time.
In summary, yeah it's a little rough around the edges but it's East Van, it's Main St, so that's not out of place in the area. Many decades of operation with zero dishonest practices, no staff churn, and a solid selection of musical instruments, amps, jewelry, electronics, and bikes. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Lol trash people the only person that's nice their is the jewelry guy but even then they have little respect the manager should be fired and change your prices on the jewelry way too over priced jus saying half a star if I could

Rude, condescending stuff. Items on a Craigslist are not in stock, I’m pretty sure they use it as a bate (I suggest to call 1st to confirm that they have it). Will never visit them again worst experience in a while

I pawned a guitar pedal worth $450 with these guys. They let someone (who "looked like me") pick it up. This person didn't even have the ticket for the item, I know because I have the original ticket, which said I have until April 1st, 2024 to pick it up.
The staff were extremely rude and condescending when I talked to them on the phone. They also did not offer me any sort of compensation for their mistake.
They've essentially robbed me, and I can only assume that they would to the same to you. I don't recommend any one deal with these dirty snakes.
