“I really love the North Van location of Stong's, so I was excited to check out this concept store, which still carries the essence of Stong's on a much smaller scale. I appreciate that they’re trying to activate Squamish's downtown while keeping local brands at the forefront. That said, I can understand why this location isn’t resonating with the locals in Squamish like the North Van and Vancouver stores do. The audience here is different—they deeply value community, and with Nesters having had a long monopoly, adding an even more expensive store might stir up some discontent. Especially since this market is in the space of a beloved community-driven café that was important to the locals. I imagine Stong's will need to work hard to win over the Squamish community and clearly communicate the value they bring. When I visited, the store was pretty quiet, which is not what you'd see on a weekend in North Vancouver or Vancouver. If people only associate you with high prices and taking the place of a cherished community café, there could be challenges ahead. I will be following closely to see how they overcome this!”

“This store is very much so saving my health. Due to my job I am often home for a day or 2 in between trips and I want to eat healthy but don't have the time to prepare meals with whole foods. They ALWAYS have something pre-made in the fridge I can grab, and its delicious! And has none of the added shitty oils/sugars and bs you find in any other convenience food. Also the produce is the best in town, continuously fresh and great quality. This is almost always the only store I go to do fill up my fridge. The women at the check out are always lovely and kind, not sure what I would do in this town without this store...”

Nesters itself, miss the old items that were more unique so now I have to go to WFM in west van, organic produce isn’t purchased enough so it goes bad fast (and it’s very expensive compared to WFM). Hard to find staff on the floor, guessing short staffed like many places.”
