Yoooo! You need to visit this place to appreciate fishing techniques, old machinery and old ways of fish processing technology.
This place is very much kid friendly, informative and appealing to look. Even the location is nicely suited near the waters. Totally love it.

Admission is free if you bring the brochure of the hotel you stayed at, so I went there and it was better than I expected. Is the admission fee $13? I did it, but maybe it was because it was free... They turned an old canning factory into a museum, and I happened to see tuna being brought in from the factory next door. The staff were friendly and fun to watch.

We were in the area and decided to pop in. Glad we did - we spent almost 2 hours walking through with our young kids and enjoyed the stories from the tour guides, seeing all the fishing equipment and displays, and even seeing the old canning line machines run a demo. On the Herring side of the factory, there was an older gentleman guide who recalled vivid details for us of the smells and horrors of working in the herring canning industry! Still enjoyed the neighbouring fish and chips place after!

Loved the use of the original cannery and its machinery to tell the story of the fish canning industry in Vancouver. Much more interesting than I expected, to be honest! Great to have the words of people who worked there, and lots of photos - really brought it to life. One star off because quite a number of the interactive exhibits weren't working.

The museum is very complete and has the complete manufacturing line as well as all the elements and machines of the different stages of the cannery.
There are areas more oriented towards knowledge of fishing with a reproduction of the interior, accessible to explore in a small fishing boat.
The information about sustainability and fishing methods has caught my attention.

Hours of Operation: Open daily 10am-5pm free admission for people children under 17yrs old. It's is colder inside the Cannery than it is outdoors is what I noticed.
Must say most of the displays that were being upgraded so did not get much of the AV experiences and hands on. The children area some of the items were kind of sticky and grimy. At specific time a tour is part of the experience but if you have questions or wanted to know more since the AV or displays not completed there is nobody to ask or enquire that is around. When you go outside the lady said that she didn't know. They also do not have directional arrows to make sure you don't miss any hidden rooms or a map for things if children didn't run off ai wouldn't know.
It is a well preserved structure for a National Historic Site. Built in 1894, the cannery echoes the days when it was the leading producer of canned salmon in British Columbia. Built in 1894, the cannery echoes the days when it was the leading producer of canned salmon in British Columbia.

Cute museum about fish canning. Interesting to learn about the avid history of this field in British Columbia.
I don't think it'd be worth the entrance fee of $10+ but if you have the national parks pass that gets you in free of addition charge, it might be worthwhile to go to kill some time.

My 12-13 girls thought it was fun, educational and interesting. I found it to be well presented, informative and a fantastic glimpse into industrial era working conditions (without the smell). 5/5 my tax dollars well used.

Highly recommend! It's a gem of a museum and historic site. I had no expectations as I didn't do any research on it. Was just in the area and wanted something to do. It is so immersive with the original machinery in place. Looks like they're in the middle of updating the exhibits. I appreciated the acknowledging of the racist past associated with the cannery, salmon fishing and BC's history in general, though I'm sure there's a lot more that can be said about it. We spent about an hour there. Highly recommend.
