Guide was well informed & engaging. Tour took about 45 minutes and for $5, it's worth seeing how things used to be done.

This is a well kept museum/preserved home of British and Scottish background; we found the staff very accommodating and friendly. The metro van area is relatively non historic compared to many other parts in the world so its fun to have this type of underrated visit about. You wont be spending a lot of time here due to size but its fun experience in how homes used to be and the classic way of living. A nice little gem right in new west.

Me and my youngest daughter came a long way from surrey. We had 10 minutes left before the museum closed. The guy greeted me rudely by saying there was 5 minutes left and I'm not allowed to go in to view. To protect the house protection had nothing to do with us viewing it. He was rude and turned us away. I will never go back there again

I still like The Commonwealth very much, and I miss the broken empire on which the sun never sets. Alas!

Went in with a friend without any appointment on a Sunday afternoon. We were immediately greeted by Lynda who gave us a wonderful, in depth tour, and she was able to answer all of our questions. You’re awesome Lynda! The house was beautiful and full of many interesting artifacts.Entry and tours are by donation, recommended $2/person or $5/family. Cash only. This is a great place to kill 30-60 minutes on a weekend, and learn a little something new about our community’s history, for just a toonie!

A quaint little historical house in downtown New Westminster. The museum interpreters are very warm and welcoming and know a lot about the home. It takes about 30 min, maybe, to go through the tour. Admission is by donation, so you can't really go wrong. It's an enjoyable visit, and great if you need a quick break from the outdoors. We've been twice (just walked up each time) and had no issues with it being too busy; but it's still probably best if you reserve a timeslot ahead of time.

Very personalized tour from 'Robin' I would recommend him. He's not a bird, he's a fella!Lovely bit of history of New Westminster. The first house ever built there. As original buildings are thin on the ground in Vancouver, this is a must-see!Step inside the airconditioned atmosphere and while away a very enjoyable hour. The house was built with some style and this is still reflected in the original wallpapers and carpets in some rooms and some furniture and bric-a-brac from the original family's collection.

I first learned about Irving House while reading Ghost Stories of British Columbia. The house was featured as one that has had numerous sightings over the decades. Having had a few experiences in my lifetime, I thought I'd visit and see if I felt anything.During the tour, I hung back in the doorway of the dining room because I was hearing something. It sounded like a dinner party, complete with cutlery touching dishes, happy talking, and laughing. It sounded tinny and far away but it was undeniable and lasted at least 15 seconds. A loud voice from the tour group down the hall startled me and I could no longer hear the party.I've been back at least a dozen times since then without experiencing anything further but I love the house and the family's story. The museum used to have a secondary building with more very interesting pieces that had been donated by families around the city. It also had a lovely gift shop, but for some reason, they had to discontinue using the building and the gift shop couldn't be opened anywhere else on the grounds. I think you can still see some of the antique furniture and items at the New Westminster museum down the street. The house alone is worth a visit though. I go back every few years and still enjoy it.

Tracy is a great tour guide. My friend and I enjoyed her stories about the history of the house, and it was interesting to see the rooms and furnishings. It was a nice way to spend some time on a rainy day.

I had such a great time! The guide has worked there for twenty something years and was so knowledgeable and helpful! You could ask about any artifacts in the house and she would know the full history! So worth your time if your ever in new West. Go visit and learn about our Canadian history!
