CARES shelter cats usually come to PetSmart once ready for adoption. I would highly suggest that you adopt not buy cats and most importantly schedule an appointment with CARES shelter or visit Langley PetSmart. On a side note, staff work very hard for caring and nurturing these cats and would be glad to match you with a furry friend.

I went in to check out cats with my son. We had lost a cat in the summer and we were looking to replace her. We live on a large property with a farm style house and we had notice mouse activity in the house, since our cat had passed.I came in and asked how to tell if a cat would be a good mouser? We chatted a bit nothing seemed off. We bonded with one of the cats. I came back an hour later with my daughter she loved the cat so we filled out an adoption form. The next day I received a call to say another family was successful with the adoption of the cat we were interested in. The person on the phone told me to also try at laps and spca. All good.We went in the next day and filled out an adoption form for another cat. The following day I received this emailI'm sorry but you have NOT been approved to adoptAce or Lucky.I spoke to you the other day and told you were notapproved for Ace (any other cats)I suggested to you to try LAPS, or SPCA for a cat. Please do not submit any more applications at PetSmart, theywill not be accepted. At no point in the conversation did they tell me I was not approved. They said another family was selected. Also this email is just straight up rude.I asked for clarity by email and by phone. The only thing I can think of is we asked about a cat being a good mouser.I literally just wanted to know why I was not allowed to adopt there. This is the response:I have received an email regarding you application for Ace or LuckyYou have not been accepted to adopt one of our cats and you cannot seem to understand this.We have the right to refuse to adopt to you, and I cannot understand why you cannot accept or understand this.I am kindly asking you to stay away from us and stop contacting us.I might suggest that you spend your time seeking out an alternative place to adopt a cat, rather than wasting your time and our time .Carol Briner, PresidentC.A.R.E.S.

We adopted our cat JT from C.A.R.E.S in 2014 and it was a great experience. We're so glad we went to a shelter when we were looking for a cat and the staff there were so helpful and responsive. JT is now 16 and we recommend this shelter to people all the time ♥️

My experience at C.A.R.E.S was beyond horrible. I had contacted the establishment to adopt a bonded pair - and they approved me for a meeting at their HQ in Langley. I arrived prepared, ready to pay and complete the service, and take my cats home … and that’s when everything became VERY strange. While most of the staff was kind and helpful, some were not. They made it extremely difficult for me to adopt. Not only did the website have inaccurate information about their age, they also LIED about their gender. The website had said they were a boy and a girl … turns out they are both boys! None of that bothered me in the end, as I just wanted to bring my cats home to a safe and secure place.During my meeting, just as I was bonding with and starting to gain trust of two brothers … I WAS KICKED OUT.I was informed that another meeting was to take place - and I was no longer allowed to be with any of the cats, I had to leave. This was about 20 minutes of time before I was escorted out of the Adoption Shelter. It was a very uncomfortable and enraging experience.I requested (via e-mail) if I could come back to see the cats again and Marion - SAID NO. She told me to stay away, and gave me the indication that this adoption was NOT going to happen. It’s very clear that she did not like me as a person ... it became obvious very quickly. The next day, I went back anyway … because I really loved those cats. Luckily, I was greeted by a very kind staff member who informed me that she did not have the authority to facilitate the adoption for me. She genuinely wanted to help, but wasn’t allowed to.It is safe to say that C.A.R.E.S is a shelter that does not put the welfare of the animals first. The state of the shelter alone is something to be desired. The cats do have food and some broken toys to play with … but it could be better. They are kept in wireframe cages and probably don’t get much interaction with humans at all. It scares me that a place like this can exist in a “regulated” and approved system. I hope my cats are OK. I ended up going to a different shelter in the end - in Maple Ridge.

I sent them an email to make an appointment to visit, I was hoping to meet two of the cats, but I was also open to meeting any others who were good with other cats as I already have a cat. They never responded to my first email, so I sent them another six days later. Finally, Marian responds. She doesn't say any hello or anything, just: "Shaw and Kenny are already adopted." I had said I would like to visit with other options, but apparently that doesn't matter to Marian. So unprofessional and just so rude. I'm wondering if these cats were even adopted, because they are still listed as 'available' on the website.
