It has been extremely frustrating….
I bought a minivan (approx. 110,000km) from CarMatch in July, due to their good Google reviews. They provided us with inspection papers stating everything was okay. About three weeks later, the engine light came on. When I called the CarMatch dealer, he directed us to an affiliated auto repair shop in Port Coquitlam. My family was relieved this happened before the 1month warranty expired.
We left the car there, and a few hours later, the owner of the auto repair shop informed us that the gas cap was loose, causing the engine light to come on. He said he erased it.
Two weeks later, the car broke down on the highway while my wife was driving our two kids from daycare. We called the repair shop owner and the CarMatch dealer to explain what happened. We had it towed to the same shop. The mechanic (Not the owner) showed me a noisy, shaking the high pressure fuel pump and told me it was broken. He promised to call with a quote but never did. No one called me that day.
2 days later, the shop owner called to say the transmission was broken, estimating repairs at over $7,000 for a new one or around $4,000 for a rebuilt one. We called the CarMatch dealer, hoping they could help, as it had only been 1 month and 2 weeks since we bought the car. The dealer said the warranty had expired and suggested we should have bought an extended warranty.
The shop owner told me that he got a call from the dealer. He told me to leave the car with him. He said he would find a way to solve this problem (We were hoping that he would find a solution so that we could avoid that enormous repair cost). He told me to take our two babys’ car seats because it could take a long time. I said it was fine because I have two baby car seats in my other car as well.
I called the CarMatch dealer again to relay this conversation. I begged him that CarMatch should do something about this.
From that point, I was waiting, waiting and waiting…..for the owner of the auto repair shop to call. He never called me for more than 1 month and a half (7 weeks). I called the auto repair shop last week. But he said he would call me back with a quote when he came back to the shop. He didnt call me.
I called him again the next day. He gave me a quote for $5,600 for a rebuilt transmission (which is more expensive than other shops. Im not gonna dig too deep on this. Just ruin my day by thinking about this. I didnt just sit and wait for 7 weeks. I got quotes from others too.)
I reminded him that he told me that he was going to find a solution for me. He said he has no solution. I questioned him back that he really had to spend that long to get a quote. He just said “No”. That’s it. He didnt explain why it took so long.
The same day I called the CarMatch dealer again to report this, and he was surprised my minivan was still at the shop. I could not believe that nobody cared after they sold the car. I requested to speak with the CarMatch owner and he said he was willing to book an appointment…. but after 1 week….. Still I have heard nothing from them.
I am a very patient person and typically avoid complaints, which is why I haven't named the dealer or repair shop.
However, driving the car for just 5-6 weeks and then waiting over 8 weeks for nothing... has been a nightmare. I’ve had to rent cars, take Ubers, buses, and SkyTrains…..Still not have the car after spending $20K whole cash….
