Ace Hardware Celebrates 100 Years with 5,000th US Store

Ace Hardware is hammering out an impressive growth story. The retailer-owned cooperative is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a bang, reaching 5,000 U.S. stores and planning to open 200 new locations in 2024.

The company hit a milestone when it opened its 100th new store this year in Henderson, Nevada. Another newcomer, Fixit Ace Hardware in Roswell, Georgia, became the 5,000th domestic Ace store.

"I'm so proud to announce our 100th new store opening of the year in the 100th anniversary of the company," said John Venhuizen, Ace Hardware's President and CEO. He added, "This serendipitous symmetry is a beautiful testament to the enduring relevance in our faith that human connection and a servant heart is not the enemy of a successful business, it's the enabler."

Ace's growth isn't just a recent trend. Over the past five years, they've opened more than 900 new stores worldwide. Last year alone saw 203 new Ace locations pop up. This growth has paid off big time for shareholders, with a 35% return in 2023.

The hardware giant's success comes from various sources. Existing store owners are opening new locations, some competitor stores are switching to the Ace brand, and new investors are jumping on board. Interest in owning an Ace store is at an all-time high.

Globally, Ace is a powerhouse. They have over 5,800 stores in 60 countries, raking in more than $22 billion in sales. Their unique setup lets local entrepreneurs become both store owners and company shareholders.

To mark their 100 years, Ace is spicing things up with new product lines. They're launching Loud Mouth™ Barbeque sauces and Ace Vintage Threads apparel featuring old-school logos.
