This is my experience as an artist with this gallery. I make wearable art. I found Red Door Gallery while gathering quotes from local framers. I told the owner, Melody, that I was gathering quotes as a favor for my associate, & had no say in his final decision.
I noticed a set of wire earrings on display, & mentioned I created wire jewelry also. I showed her photos of my work and Melody wanted to display my pieces on consignment. She specified the style her clients responded to & we agreed I would bring in several pieces in 1 month.
I made extra effort to create unique pieces fitting her clients style. Prior to looking at the pieces, Melody asked where my associate
had chosen to have his artwork framed. I told her that my associate chose Hobby Lobby (which was $600 less than her nearly $900 quote). We went over my jewelry, & she asked me to make a few changes, to create new packaging inserts & add 12 sets of earrings. At Melody's instruction, I ended up dismantling a large & complex piece which I had created specifically to meet her original style guidelines. This piece had drawn interest from my own clients & I could have found a buyer in my own network. However, feeling it would be good exposure to secure a spot in this gallery, I dismantled most of the piece, leaving only the section she specified.
I returned the next day. Again, before looking at my work, Melody asked where my associate had decided to get his art framed. I told her again that he had chosen Hobby Lobby.
At that point, Melody told me, "You know, I'm
going to be ugly. You need to take your jewelry to Hobby Lobby."
I was confused, & couldn't say much more than "Okay?"
She continued, "Yeah. There's no place for you here. You don't belong here. I've done so much for your associate's company. I've organized so many fundraisers & donated so much and I've handled their orders for 9 years. & they do this to me? No. There's no place here for you. You don't belong here. You need to leave"
I was shocked, stunned, & deeply hurt. It was my understanding that our business was our business, not somehow tied to my associate's decision a month earlier. Knowing my associates decision, Melody had proceeded to work with me and specify changes to my jewelry as though she still fully intended to honor our consignment agreement. Then she rejected me for a decision made by my associate that had nothing to do with me.
Melody's behavior is not only unprofessional, but juvenile and downright vicious. I hope no other artists are asked to alter pieces they spent many long hours creating, so that Melody can turn around and tell them "There's no place here for you. You need to go to Hobby Lobby."
I posted this review 3 years ago, and Melody went into full Karen mode, causing trouble for my boss, and his boss’s boss. Ultimately I removed the review to help them. But now I don’t work there anymore, so I’m free to share my truth.

I bought a James Hayes bowl here today, the lady who owns the store (my apologies, I don't remember your name, Sweetie) she was just the nicest lady, and has THE best selection of James Hayes glassworks! I went to a dozen stores before finding Red Door Gallery and finding "my piece" and enjoyed talking with her immensely! Will definitely go back for my next piece!

Red Door Gallery framed my son’s college diploma beautifully! They used UV glass and the matting is stunning. Special thanks to Kelly for her knowledge and explanation of how these products will keep the diploma from yellowing, and helping to pick the perfect combinations out.
