If i could give this 0 stars I would. I walked into the store with my sister and immediately got called out for my bag, it is indeed a backpack purse but it’s minimum sized and i had it all the way on both shoulders, my sister had a tote bag wayyyy bigger than mine and yet I got told “No backpacks in the store” no reason and she had an attitude when she had spoke out. This was the first reason i was upset, I felt called out and everyone in the store had looked at me. I have severe anxiety and I was shaking really bad. I had went to my car and tried to call the store to try to get her or someone on the phone so I wouldn’t have to go back in to get more information on this “policy.” No one had answered, the line was definitely disconnected. So I got the courage to go back in and voice my concerns about this “policy” and she goes “Its just the policy” no explanation clearly rude wouldn’t even look at me. So I tell her that its just my purse and she completely just put me down, she started talking very loud and yelled st me to leave because I told her she had no right to tell me to leave MY belongings in the car, and I told her she shouldn’t assume someones coming in to steal. I understand it may be an issue but maybe if you have a suspicion maybe don’t directly confront someone in front of people and instead send a worker to keep an eye on them. I have a job and completely stable, I was even in my work attire if you had a feeling I was stealing check your cameras and if I had been you could call my work, ask for my name, and report me to the police or ban me from the store. But no instead she embarrassed me. She said her name was “V” and she was the general manager of the store. I’ve been in many dollar generals and it wasn’t my first time in this one with the same bag, my experiences the times I went before this were very nice and the employees were sweet but not her. I also saw no sign saying “no backpacks allowed.” She was just very unprofessional and I was shaking and on the verge of tears when she yelled at me. I’ve had an experience like this before. I just hope she understands that she shouldn’t try to enforce policies like that. You’re losing a potential buyer by telling them to leave because you think they’re going to steal, your losing money either way. I work in a service business and whenever someone comes to complain I am completely on their side and I understand. But this woman definitely needs to get her lind straight before she loses her job. I really hope she can be nicer to future customers and I wish nothing bad happens to her. I understand she may have a family to feed and bills to pay I hope she can stay in the position she’s in but learns how to deal with situations better. If I was in her place I would’ve asked the customer if I could talk to them and mention the stealing issue and mention their backpack and ask them kindly if they could leave it in their car or upfront and watch the bag for them, and if the customer said no I would watch the customer to be sure. I do hate that people who work in stores have to deal with stealing but they shouldn’t assume everyone is going to steal. I did think about recording the situation but I didn’t want to infringe on her rights as a person nor humiliate her either. We both were definitely in the wrong but after I had left my sister was in line and she unprofessionally started talking bad behind my back to the customer laughing at me, my sister told me the customer was in complete silence. I’m sorry if anyone has had to deal with a situation like this before. I just felt like there was no need to yell at me when I was talking in a normal tone, (and i can get loud when im talking too) but to yell at me and tell me to get out for voicing my concerns was very wrong, she should’ve stayed calm and said “Well, I do understand your concerns, but please understand my part in this situation.” I do apologize to the woman for having an issue. But I feel a lot safer with my bag in me so I can reach my medicine when I am in need of it.
