Let me just start by saying this place is the reason I learned to work on my own vehicles and hone my own mechanical skills. I drive a 1995 ford truck, it was my first and only vehicle for a long time as a 16 year old kid.
The first time I went to browns was for a bad squeaking serpentine belt. He told me my tensioner pulley was “misaligned” so he replaced it. I paid the bill, and went on. The squeaking stopped but returned in a day or so, so naturally I brought it back. He looked it over once more, charged me a diagnostic fee, only to tell me “it’s an old truck, it’s gonna do that.” Seriously? And yes, I had to pay for his time to examine a problem that should’ve been fixed the first time around. Oh well. So I went home and did my research, someone online suggested I replace the serpentine belt with a Gator brand. I did that, problem solved to this day around 8 years later.
Flash forward a couple months or so, and my truck was running rough so I tried his shop again. On the phone he told me to bring it to him so he can hook it up to a computer. I happily agreed. He hooked my truck up to do a live data scan, told me my throttle position sensor had a “flat” spot and wasn’t operating smoothly. He then told me that would be $60 or so- huh? He failed to mention that it cost anything to read codes, as orilleys and other local chain auto stores do that for free. So I had to literally walk home AND back to get the cash, because he held my keys from me. Ouch.
A year or so later, my distributor failed while going down the road. I was miles from anywhere, had no one available for help so I called a tow. For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to tow it to browns-maybe then I could get a new distributor and he could help a kid get his truck back on the road after hours? Maybe? Ha. Laughable. When I asked him nicely and desperately for help, he snapped in my face “that’s like taking food off my plate” and turned his back and went back inside. You can’t make this kind of stuff up. So I paid even more to an already expensive tow bill to have it towed to my parents house where the truck sat until some genuine REAL helpful human being came along.
Since then, I’ve learned to rebuild engines, automatic transmissions, port cylinder heads/intakes, tune ecus, and yes, install distributors. I’ve never encountered such rude and unprofessional service from a business that’s somehow been around since the 70s. Beware, Brown will take advantage of you with hidden fees and seemingly snide remarks, making you feel less than. Maybe I just caught him on bad days, maybe we got off on the wrong foot, but please take your vehicle somewhere, ANYWHERE else in town. I hope this helps save someone their dinner.

We've used Brown's for years and have always been pleased with their expertise and prices. Tried to give them five stars but the site switched it to four.

Rebuilt my alternator and when he took it off it literally disintegrated in his hands so he saved me the cost of a new one on my 2000 f150 xlt .

These folks were fantastic. I was traveling out of town and they went above and beyond to get me on the road on the same day and even helped me get reimbursed by GMC. Stand up shop! I felt like a valued customer.
