I really didn't want to write a negative review about this place because the owner was pleasant and I don't want to hurt her business because of one bad employee but it's been over a month and I still don't like my haircut. I came in and was greeted right away by my hair stylist Marie. She promptly asked if I had a picture of what I wanted and I replied "I sure do!" It would have seemed as if she was put off by my comment because she then proceeded to haphazardly cut a big chunk of my length off before she even washed it and then just shrugged it off. I think even the owner was surprised by the look of her reaction. I had joked that she had "scalped me" to make light of the situation but let me tell you my hair looks nothing like the picture I presented. All I wanted was some long layers with enough hair left over to pull up into a ponytail. Not only did she not layer my hair but she cut it too short and now I look like a "crested penguin" when I put my hair up. I should have heeded the warning about her on the previous reviews. I could go back to get it "fixed" but what are they gonna do, cut more hair off and make it even shorter? I hope that the owner hires more skilled and certified stylists going forward.

Looking for a great hair and eyebrow service with excellent customer service? You're in luck! I have to say, now a days it's hard to find a new establishment where they make you feel and look so good afterwards.
Brenda and Marie are real professionals who know what they're doing. You just tell them the cut/color you're looking for and before you know it, you're looking and feeling like a brand-new person...beautiful work ladies and thank you for having to look no further!!!

Posting this on behalf of a friend. She went for a cut, mostly to trim dead ends. She asked the woman who cut her hair for layers, texture, and face framing front pieces. The stylist argued against what she wanted by saying that layers would look bad and be ‘too complicated’ for long hair while simultaneously making her feel bad for her dead ends (made a comment such as “you know your hair is really stringy on the ends?” in a condescending tone). In addition to this, my friend recently got an industrial (ear) piercing that is in the process of healing. She informed the stylist of this at the beginning of the cut, asking her to be careful working around it, as even bumping it can be quite painful. The piercing was snagged multiple times with the comb during the cut. The stylist then made rude and unnecessary comments regarding how well the piercing seems to be healing and how she would take care of it by letting it dry out (a direct contradiction to what almost any piercing professional will tell you to do). She also made comments about southside Tucson that felt extremely prejudiced (implying it’s a bad part of town/the hood).
TLDR: the stylist was exceptionally condescending, judgy, unprofessional, and claimed that adding texture/layers to long hair was ‘too complicated’ regardless of what the client asked for.

I've been coming to this Salon for a little while now, and what a heartwarming gem. Both Marie and Brenda were so very nice and had great customer service with a smile! That's hard to find these days...real ones. The haircut , color and highlights I had done was with Brenda and she nailed it perfectly! I have very fine hair and in my 50's , and it's hard to find people that know how to cut that , and boy she does! Let me just say that long ago I used to cut hair, and that if she can impress me like this time, and time and time again, why wouldn't I keep scheduling with her? She totally exceeded my expectations on my visit this week! I went in fatigued and down with hair ideas all over the place and not able to tell her exactly anything. I told her I trusted her to decide what would be best. Only idea I genuinely offered was the dark color tone. The result of the coloring was Amazing... one that truly fit perfectly to my skin tone, and the color pop placement was nothing I'd have requested to be where she put it, but it was perfect, so much of a more dramatic look that I really did want! The haircut was modified to give the illusion of more hair than I have, and Brenda layered it wonderfully since I couldn't give her a decision on that either. I almost expected her to laugh and just send me out the door til I could tell her what I wanted done to my hair. So, as one who knows of the hair world, and having to find someone that can do the transformation she did, it was mind blowing, and I felt amazing getting into my car and smiling from ear to ear. She took me from frumpy to sassy!! My illnesses have overwhelmed me for 8 months now, and these two ladies put a little bounce back in my steps and a lot more smiling. And my husband said " Oh looky that; there you are! You're back!" Truly, love them so much. So in short... it's a great salon and you couldn't go wrong. I wish I'd have known about them or met them a long time ago. This week was too epic to not share my experience! And I'm going to Vegas this weekend!! Omgosh my hair is making me feel sparkly!! I'll update with a before and after pic. I need to take one and find a before. Once you see the pics...you'll understand completely.

I have been a patron of A Cut Above for many years. The owner Brenda is very experienced and keeps a clean and professional business. She is very versatile in her service. Marie a salon stylist has been taking care my hair for over 12 years. She is extremely knowledgeable about the current styles and even throw backs if that is for you. I highly recommend this shop that is at a great location on Oracle Rd. Stop in, they take walk ins and appointments.

my review keeps getting taken down, so I will make the effort to now come on every week to submit a review. I took my son to get his first hair cut, showed the lady what I wanted which was a mullet, and verbally told her no to cutting the back of his hair. She proceeded to spray me in the face, she was patient with my son who was confused what was happening, when she finished cutting the sides I went to go put my son down and she grabbed a huge chunk of hair in the back and chopped it off. All his curls, gone, his mullet gone. I audibly gasped and grabbed his hair, she then pushed my hand out of the way. She did the haircut SHE wanted. So disrespectful in my opinion, especially for it being our first experience with haircuts for my little man. I had to pay 35 dollars for a kids cut as well? There lucky I just wanted to hurry up and go cry in my car not in front of everyone so I payed with no tip, which she also seemed very frustrated by, but come one, you didn’t listen to me one bit, why would I tip you money for something I didn’t want. I’ve been told by family and friends I was way too nice and shouldn’t have even paid. I will continue to write reviews until it is seen by that woman and she knows the way that she made me feel. I don’t remember her name, but she was an older lady.

Went in with a picture of what I wanted and got exactly that! Will definitely be coming back. Just know they will be relocating in October of 2024. In the meantime, I recommend this salon.

I am new to Tucson and I needed to get my hair trimmed just a little as it is a short haircut. I called and got an apt for the next day--and as it turns out I was going to be late so I called wanting to change it but the lady I spoke with just said to get there by 5 pm. Which I did and now I wish I hadn't. She asked me if I wanted a shampoo and I replied I don't think so--so she said it came with the haircut--which when I looked on this Yelp app it said for Womans cut/trim $22....well that was wrong as well. She shampooed my hair and then walked me over to the chair--and she says 'you have a lot of hair in the back' and I told her I liked it like that and I just wanted a trim--not too much cut off. She proceeded to start cutting and before I knew it she had cut almost all the hair in the back like a men's hair cut. Then she starts taking some Jaír and cutting it here and there--and how I saw it she was not too interested in my hair or how it would look. She finished and showed me--well what else could I do but just pay her and leave. Her name was Marie and during our conversation she mentioned that the other lady was the owner of the haircut place but That she was now retiring and they will close in about three months. I will never step foot in that place again--a waste of time and money and I hate my haircut!!!! Do not go here esp with the lady that cut my hair as she did the worse job ever.....

Lenny is my hair dresser, she is wonderful. Went to get my hair cut, she knew just what I needed and what to do. . I went for a cut because she was fitting me in. She went a head and did my low lights and said she had another appt but I will take care of you. How sweet! When done with hair, her appt never showed so she talk to me about tattooing my eye brows. I have always wanted to but was scared. She said how about if I draw them on and see what you think, lol. The moral of my story she cut, colored, and tattooed my brows when I just went for a cut. Just ask for Lenny she is wonderful. She make time for you. I drive from Mescal Az/ BensonAz.
