I would like to express my dissatisfaction with the services provided by this funeral home. Unfortunately, my experience here was marked by a severe lack of customer service, professionalism, communication, and compassion. Additionally, I found their pricing to be comparable to that of corporate funeral homes. Externally, the appearance of the funeral home is unappealing and unkempt, with construction and debris scattered throughout the property. This lack of upkeep is disheartening and reflects poorly on the establishment. Moreover, unlike my experience at Resthaven, my family and I were not offered even the most basic amenities such as water or compassion during our visit. When we arrived for our scheduled appointment with the owner, Manuel, we were instead greeted by Kevin, who appeared unprepared and unaware of our situation. It was frustrating to have to repeat all the necessary information to him, especially after being assured that Manuel would be assisting us. Furthermore, Manuel's failure to uphold his promises and provide updates on my deceased loved one's case was deeply disappointing. When I raised my concerns with him, he displayed a lack of empathy and professionalism, failing to apologize for the inconvenience or remember important details. Instead, he offered excuses and disregarded my frustration. In light of these shortcomings, I would strongly advise others to consider alternative funeral homes, such as Resthaven, where they can expect to be treated with respect, compassion, and exceptional customer service. It is essential to choose a provider that values communication and fulfills their commitments to ensure a dignified farewell for your loved one.

I would like to thank the entire team at Universal South Mountain for making a difficult time much more bearable. Very special thanks to Cevin.G who basically conducted our entire service. I mean from the arrangements, to the music, videos, sermon and beautiful selections. Everything that was done to make our family feel a little more at ease is very greatly appreciated! Thank you USMM Team I definitely recommend this place!

South Mountain Mortuary is located off of central and between Jones and Greenway if you're in the area look it up it's across the street from Canton long or the Family Dollar Store next to her dad's pawn shop if you're in the area and you're interested in Walking In they do walk-ins you'll find somebody to talk to you and they'll let you know for whatever you're looking for dates and times casket purchases they provide they provide a lot of help with with the passing of a family member or just about passing person and if you have any questions I'm here for you I'm also Southside citizen of Phoenix with any questions I'm here to help you out again look it up off of central by Greenway and Jones if you're ever in the area and looking for Mortuary look it up South Mountain Mortuary

Universal South Mountain Mortuary has been more than accommodating for several different funeral services including during covid. Manny and his team has been great to us.

Short Hispanic woman that works here is very rude. She shooed away a family member that was looking for us before services. Regardless of the reason, that was an inappropriate thing to do to any person. There is a tall African American man that works here too, he was the sweetest person there. Also didn’t appreciate hearing the rest of the staff laughing it up in the hallway.

This place appears to be professional, but I had an extremely difficult time planning the funeral with the staff here. I have never buried anyone before, so important details such as who will be writing the programs/obituary, what options are available to choose from concerning hair and makeup, whether or not I wanted a table at the funeral with some additional pictures/keepsakes, what to include with the clothing, etc were not brought up by any staff that assisted in planning. Days before the funeral, after I had already picked out the clothes, this place tells me to make sure the clothes are long sleeved. I was not told to write a note on how I wanted my mother's hair/makeup done, but I did anyways to ensure it was how I wanted and when I arrived morning of the funeral, all of her makeup had to be redone because it was not what I said or remotely resembled any of the pictures I provided. I included nail polish for them to use, which I also was not given any info on, to see that they didn't use it and did not return the clear nail polish I provided. Also, the makeup was CLEARLY not done by a professional, which is frustrating when I requested to do it myself in fear of that very thing happening. Weeks before the funeral my family requested doves to be released at the service and THREE days before the service we were notified that they were unavailable for our service. It was not until we paid that they then had attempted to reserve doves, which if we would have known that was the case we would have paid earlier. The overall service was beautiful, however it was only after I had to go out of my way to ensure so. Very disappointed and can't recommend this place.

I received the absolute worst service for my beloved husband. My family and I were shown his body before cremation with him draped with a old dirty blanket that looked like it belonged to a pet. The chapel was also dirty. But the worst was yet to come. The day of service they did not have the requested music available. The video was not prepared and downloaded doing the memorial. My husband is a honorable retired army veteran. Because of Universal South Mountain Mortuary lack of consideration, professionalism and empathy my husband's home going memorial looked like it was ill planned and put together by amateurs. The sound system did not work properly, the music selections for the video were not played and as I mentioned earlier pictures for the video were uploaded doing the service. Some of the pictures were sideways and repeated through the video. The service was paid in full up front. This mortuary delivered extremely poor service. I will never recommend them for service!

I could not be more disappointed in the service (or lack thereof) that we received at one of the most difficult times of our lives. Sadly the old Yelp reviews are still relevant as the management here hasn't learned a thing apparently. Let's see where should I start... with the discarded alcohol bottles that have been outside of the building for two weeks or more? With the animal waste that was right in the middle of the driveway on the day of our service? With the multiple phone calls that I had to make to get even the basic of things completed? With the death certificates that were not accurate and then took weeks to get corrected? With the lack of return phone calls even when they were promised? With the peeling paint in the chapel? With the worn out carpet and pew cushions in the chapel? With their mispronouncing our family name multiple times at the graveside service? I just don't know where to start! The lack of customer care after the initial meeting was horrendous and in the business they are in, you'd think that customer care would be the top of their list of priorities!
