I use safeway drive up and go a lot and it's really convenient, especially for busy days. They give you a pick up window on the day of until 8pm. It's nice because I can get my shopping done early and pick it up whenever convenient for the most part. Safeway's pricier usually, but close to my house.
Two things:
Are the staff who bring groceries out allowed to take tips? I've never known, and never asked to keep things from being awkward if not. But I'm curious about the expectation.
The second thing: tonight I picked up my groceries later than I usually would. Right around 7:45pm. It was SO WEIRD. The kid who came out didn't say a single word to me, didn't verify my pick up number, my name, or anything. Then, he just wordlessly starts passing me my groceries through my driver's side window. So I'm putting all my groceries in my lap and I'd say I'm probably looking more than just a little confused. I tell him 'thanks?'
I'm talking like a pack of soda and all of my bags. In through my window. This has never happened to me before and it was a really, really weird thing to do. Usually they throw it in the trunk and we call it a day.
At the end of this bizarre exchange he tells me to have a good night. Definitely prefer the groceries not in my hands/lap and either in the backseat or trunk.

Shopping here is my least favorite thing to do hence placing my online orders at least two three times a week. My staple item was not sent due to me missing the text approving the replacement. My delivery came within 30 minutes. Previously I’ve been sent replacements without my approval. I headed out to the store immediately, picked up the item that was on sale and also noticing many more of same item next to it. I asked to speak to a manager but later found out I was speaking to the supervisor Brian.
Brian the supervisor said to me he did not see an issue and did not understand the problem. At this point my issue was not with the shopper but with the supervisor not having the courtesy to say he was sorry that I had to come back out to the store as this was what I was avoiding. The supervisor then said to me maybe the replacement wasn’t sent because it was on sale and maybe the others were just brought out and not there when the shopping was being done. Again not once saying sorry I had to come back out.
I did contact Safeway via email and phone call and was told the manager will get back to me. I did not get a response from the manager.

Don't bother shopping at this store. Terrible customer service. Rude and entitled employee wouldn't even bother to accept a coupon for my baby's formula. ?

Great selections and quality but need to be a savvy shopper and look for deals and digital buys. Normal cost is above average

I spent $15.99/lb on a New York strip steak on Thursday and ate it tonight. It would’ve actually been easier to chew through my belt from my pants then it was to try to eat the steak absolutely disgusting and the idea that the butchers are OK with putting out what would be considered their best cut on a New York strip, I’m not sure how they sleep. It was cooked to medium rare! I live right in between Fry’s and Safeway and you just lost all of my business with this absolutely horrible steak. I’m sure $400 a month isn’t much to you.

I was so impressed with Paul, the butcher! I was looking for Impossible Burgers and first looked in the meat department with no luck. I then looked in the frozen department and still no luck. I asked one of their associates and they told me they were in the meat department. I went back to the meat department and met Paul. He said they were in the frozen department. He then stopped restocking the meat and personally walked me back to the frozen department and showed me where they were. I thought it was sweet that the butcher was helping this vegetarian find the fake meat! :0)

Floral department is not open at 5pm on my way home from work. Customer service is not available to tell me floral department hours. I’ve stopped by the store several times recently, and had the same issue each time.

At 5pm on April 13th I ran in to grab milk really fast and when I went to self check out I was very upset. The older woman working self check out had a younger boy purchasing items, could not have been more than 10 years old. His card, that he stated he had just gotten, was not working. Instead of trying to help or seeing if another self check out would work, she mocked him, got impatient and raised her voice at him. After she walked away to mock him to another employee she then proceeded to talk about her snack that she had.. It was not my place to correct this employee as I am not her boss. When I tried to call twice to speak with a manager to inform them of this employee to hopefully correct the behavior , they were conveniently not available. I use to run a grocery store so to see this type of “customer service” really broke my heart. I would not feel comfortable having my children going to this store.

Great, clean, organized store. There was a kind gentleman who helped with the sandwiches awhile back and was kind about his explanation on how it worked. Will be coming back to see more of this place

Lady in customer service had more important things to do apparently this evening..I asked for a propane exchange and she pointed me to a line and said to ask the guy at the register. He had about 12 people in line. I've been getting propane here for the past 10yrs. Never have I been asked to wait in a ridiculous line for something that the people at registers can't help me with anyhow. Annoyed I also had to load tanks back up and go elsewhere..

Misleading and Predatory practices.
I was in Safeway at 3800 W Happy Valley Rd, Glendale, AZ 85310 this weekend, and because there was the deal BUY 2 get 1 FREE on OTC medicines, I decided I would restock our house.
However, as I was self-scanning I noticed that the 3rd item was only coming off the low priced items.
Cody, the self-checkout clerk, came over to help me. He explained that if you purchase multiple items of the same Signature product line, that it would take off the lowest price item.
So if I BUY 2 get 1 FREE of Vitamins at $20, and BUY 2 get 1 FREE of Chapstick for $3.Then (2) $3 ChapSticks removed, instead of (1) $20 item and (1) $3 item.
Was this intended, or is the cashier computer making a mistake? If this is intended then it is totally misleading and predatory.
I cancelled all the items, and then made separate purchases on separate transactions to get the discount. I went from $205 initially to just $160 when purchased separately.
I am very apprehensive to shop Safeway "deals" anymore. I will return to Costco to stock up on medicines.
