Just to clarify the tone, this isn’t a review based on some strong emotion or written with ill intent. My hope is that this situation gets brought to the attention of whosoever has the power to make the necessary changes to prevent this issue from reoccurring indefinitely.
I am a cancer survivor. Unfortunately that disease left me permanently disabled resulting in chronic pain. I have been a customer of Walgreens pharmacy for the better part of two decades. I’ve never had a problem with getting medication from this establishment until I started having a pain medication filled regularly.
When you call in to have pain medication refilled, the staff treats you like a criminal. They talk down to you as if you are beneath them and they regularly delay refilling the medication simply “because it’s a controlled substance”. Since I can have any of my other medication filled within an hour of me calling along with being treated with respect, it seems to me this behavior the staff has towards patients who are prescribed a pain medication is, by definition, discrimination.
For a more specific example, I have been using the pharmacy at 4766 E Queen Creek Rd in Gilbert, AZ for the last three years. Initially I was able to pick up this pain medication at 9am with little to no rudeness from the staff which was above and beyond expectations. Then it got pushed out to 10am with a variety of excuses such as “the safe doesn’t open until then” or “the system we use to process controlled substances isn’t accessible until after 10am”.
This was around the time the staff started getting rude, talking over us or hanging up on us, giving unclear or misinformation and then treating us poorly when we acted off of the information they provided. Shortly thereafter, it again got pushed out this time to 11am and again a series of excuses as to why followed.
Currently, this location is refusing to fill this pain medication until after 2pm based on instructions from Andrew the pharmacy manager with the reasoning “because it’s a controlled substance”.
To clarify, we call the day before so they can have the medication in queue to be filled the following day. However, despite the advance notice we have to wait six hours from when this location opens to pick up this specific medication when any other medication can be filled within an hour.
I understand we don’t live in a perfect world and people are going to be rude to others based on misconceptions they have towards certain groups but surely refusing to fill a medication until you’re six hours into your workday isn’t the standard Walgreens is striving to meet. I believe there maybe a training opportunity here.

Worst place for prescriptions. Takes days and days to fill, doctor calls in meds. I end up calling and have to express the urgency before it even gets filled. I will take business elsewhere that actually does thier job

Walgreens is a convenience stop for the most part if you need something quickly or drive through prescriptions it's one of the kind store that offers a lot of novelty stuff so you can find little small items that you normally wouldn't Buy but need it in some way shape or form and that is nice to have they're open semi late some of them are 24/7 good place to know about if you need to pick up the prescription and most stores are closed. Most of the employees are pretty friendly the ones that aren't don't usually end up being around long, I only know this because I frequent the one on the corner of my block once or twice a week. The store is always stocked nicely and if you have to go to the restroom they do have the restrooms in the back that they allow access to by the break area.

My rating is specifically for the pharmacy. They need to be shut down. They are completely incompetent and have terrible customer service. They make cute little rules that specifically discriminate against certain customers/specific medication types and verbally abuse you when you go to pick it up. Even non-controlled, regular maintenance medications are not filled in the time they say they will be and they make you come back multiple times a day to pick up a single medication because it’s never ready when you go at the time they tell you to come. If they say 1 hour, it’s not ready and they’ve only just printed the label. Why are you telling me 1 hour then? They will waste your time and gas. They have no respect for your time but expect the utmost respect for theirs.I have reported this location to Walgreens corporate, and of course, they do not take the complaint seriously and did nothing.Go to literally any other pharmacy. As for the store itself, 4 stars, it’s fine, the only issue is no one helps you or greets you and the cashiers are kinda rude but it’s fine.
