Kris and Rusty you guys rock!
I've been coming to the Kar Shop now for 9 yrs. I've had oil changes, minor and moderate repairs done over that time and always been pleased by their honesty, communication and professionalism. When it came time for my engine to be replaced, they were the first and only people I called. I recommend contacting them first, for any of your auto repairs. An engine replacement was necessary and is about as big a job as you can have done. It went smooth and was completed without any issues. Kris, thank you for approving everything along the way. And Rusty, thank you for making it happen!

I have been going to this mechanic since I started driving as a teenager for over 10 years. Today I went again for my new car because it was having trouble starting until I was able to get it jumped, but the battery still had a charge. The team looked at my car for free and helped me understand what's going on. Even though I will end up having my car looked at under warranty with the dealership, the Kar Shop was willing to see me same day and ease my worries. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. If you live in the area I highly recommend this mechanic!

Edit: Rusty is still confusing my experience with my brother's issues. I haven't been to this shop for 2+ years for service because of what I described below.
I spent a few thousand dollars over 3-4 years chasing an AC issue that they couldn't manage to fix. $2400 to tear the whole dash apart and fix, no problem, as long as it's done right. A/C still wasn't cold just cool-ish. They say it's fine. Come back a few months later because it's blowing hot, they can't find a leak. Rinse and repeat because they're covering some of it under warranty. At one point they couldn't find a leak and I got so tired of sweating driving around town that I did my own dye test, found that a hose they had previously replaced was once again broken, AC recharge following that issue was comped but the AC got hot again. Told them there's something hissing in the dash every time the compressor kicked on and I even demoed it with them in the car. "That's normal" according to Kris (owner). Still under warranty brought it back a few more times, got charged 2-3 more times for a recharge and just gave up. In the midst of all of this, their lube tech didn't put the dipstick back in the engine when he changed the oil and I discovered that while on a trip out of town. Had a conversation with the newer service manager about all of this and was offered a $300 credit.
When I first came here I was ecstatic to recommend friends and family based on quality of service as well as amazing prices.
After years of working with them, I'm disappointed to how low the level of service has dropped, especially given their recent jump in prices. I understand that's going to increase with time, but the quality of work going down simultaneously makes it hit twice as hard.
Update: Looks like Rusty is responding to a lot of the reviews (Capital Letter Of Each Word). I've only spoken to Rusty once in my life and it was for a credit back after Jessica left as Service manager.
The comments about online parts was actually made by my brother who services his vehicle here and has expressed similar concerns regarding price/quality. Interestingly Rusty told him that online parts from places such as RockAuto come from other manufacturers and are in fact inferior. That is incorrect, though I do understand why the cost factor is different. However, if you look at many other reviews here, you'll see their pricing is a bit bizarre since Rusty took over. Since we're on the topic Greulich's is a local chain of shops that has just as competitive pricing with Kar Shop and far fewer concerns regarding quality of service or parts, which is why we use them now.
Last I heard, Kris only works Tues for a couple hours to check on things. I'm happy for him that he's built his business to the point where he doesn't have to check on it as frequently, but the cracks are beginning to show and it would benefit him long term to re-examine his operation.

I have stopped going to the Kar Shop as Kris is no longer running it. The communication has gone down, pricing has gone way up.

I own a 2010 Kia Soul . She's been a good little car, but as older cars do, she started to have a few quirks. I went to several mechanics who wouldn't or couldn't diagnose or troubleshoot a problem. Because the check engine light wasn't on, they couldn't just plug it in they actually needed to .....think!! The guys at the Kar Shop were completely different. They went over it and not only fixed it but it didn't cost me an exorbitant amount!!
These guys will be my new mechanics for literally anything!! They were communicative, polite, and above all else knowledgeable. I highly recommend them. I literally found them by accident and will be sticking with them.

This used to be a shop I felt comfortable going to and not getting ripped off. Unfortunately that has severely changed in recent years. Since 2020 quality has hit a massive decline and pricing has skyrocketed.
Price increases are part of everyday life anymore, but they're charging substantially more for lower quality work than they used to perform.
If you want work performed properly on your vehicle I'd recommend doing it yourself before taking it here, you're just as likely to mess it up as they are.

This shop is the absolute best. After many failed diagnosis from other shops (and replacing many unnecessary parts) I brought my car in with a plethora of check engine codes and was hopeless. Rusty and his team were able to quickly figure out what code mattered and was setting all the others off. They replaced the part that was actually bad, cleared the other codes… and after a couple months of commuting 45 minutes each way to work (and therefore many drive cycles) I am thrilled to say that my car is still running perfectly with no check engine light returning. I couldn’t recommend this shop more! Rusty and his team are absolutely fabulous, not to mention awesome to hang out with while you’re waiting if you have to. Five stars all the way!

Kris is best!!! And he can cook too…. Just wish he was still around to manage things… I brought a vehicle in to have a starter worked on, was assured it was fine by Rusty, and picked it up after hours. We got 100 yards down the street before it started to shake and the check engine light came on. Had to have them repair it again. In the meanwhile, I asked to have the door actuator replaced, was told it would be 3-5 days for the part, and I agreed. He either never ordered the part, or ever followed up on why it was not there. I had to text and email Kris 8 days later to get a response from Rusty. Kris has always been 5 stars, but Rusty is a 1, so we split the difference, and after 10+ years, I must take my business elsewhere until Rusty is replaced.
