Was just accosted trying to leave their store because I had my receipt emailed. Then was openly told “they were right about you” for… what? Some disrespectful children work up front. Your toothless employee who checks receipts needs to watch his mouth

Never have had a problem. Although it would be great to be able to use the app. But the cell signal strength in this part of AJ is that of a third world country and when u get in the store its non existent. Wish they offered a guest wifi network customers can use their app services.

Waited 20 minutes at checkout for 2 employees to NOT figure out how to ring up an item without a barcode.
15 minutes of that was them GOOGLING the item and me saying “yes that’s it” and then them scrolling past ? I left without it because they still couldn’t figure it out after I told them repetitively which exact item it was on their phone screen and even tried reading the SKU from the Walmart website.
Get employees who can figure out how to do their extremely basic job

Today, I had to return a pair of shoes that I had purchased 11 days prior. My girlfriend and I had been walking for miles in the hot sun. The insole of my right shoe had broken, causing great damage to my foot. As I stood in front of the customer service desk at Walmart, I was met with a series of questions and requests that left me feeling completely dehumanized. The young man behind the counter asked if I wanted the money refunded back to my card. It was clear that he was new to this job, and I couldn't bring myself to berate him for asking such a question. So, I simply said, "No, this would leave me completely barefoot, and being that I am homeless, this would be catastrophic."
His trainer then asked to see the card with which the shoes were purchased, just to "verify." I presented the card, and the kid processed a refund. As he handed me the receipt, I questioned, "What is this?" My fear and rage were welling up inside me. "The amount was refunded to your card, sir," he replied.
My immediate thought was, "You have got to be kidding me!" But before I could say anything, the girl training him assured me that she would handle the situation. I went to sit down as my feet were in excruciating pain.
A manager then approached me and said, "Once the refund has been made back to the card, there is nothing more I can do. It should be back in 2 to 3 business days." I explained to her the very real predicament this put me in, but she seemed unbothered.
I tried to calmly explain to her that I had specifically asked the young man to put the money on a gift card, as this was my only pair of shoes, and I was homeless. Disrespectfully, she interjected with disgust etching her face, insisting that there was nothing she could do with a tone that was condescending enough to be insulting and begrudged to give the sense that I was somehow hostile, irrational, or unreasonable.
In that moment, my faith in humanity was crumbling. How could someone be so callous and insensitive to my situation?
But then, a gentleman from the line spoke up. He had overheard the exchange and asked me directly, "If I pay for your shoes, would you pay me back when the refund appears?" I was taken aback by his kindness and assured him that I would indeed pay him back.
Overcome with emotion, I started crying. This was my life - a 49-year-old man, sunburned and crying in Walmart in my sock feet. The stark contrast between the callousness of the manager and the random act of kindness from a complete stranger left me feeling completely disjointed.
This is just one of the many challenges I face as a homeless individual. My life is a constant struggle filled with uncertainty and hardship. I am judged by my appearance, my circumstances, and my lack of privilege. Though many fit the bill of consistently rejecting assistance provided, the reality is that anyone can become homeless. All it takes is one unexpected event, one wrong turn, and life can spiral out of control.
I am just one of the many faces of homelessness. Our society often ignores systemic issues that lead to our predicament. Much in the way of litterbugs, my experience with the general populace assures themselves that someone else will clean up the garbage.
But amidst all of this pain and injustice, there are still glimmers of hope. Bill, who offered to pay for my shoes, is a perfect example of the kindness and compassion that still exist in our world. I am grateful for people like him who remind me that there is still goodness in the world.
I hope that one day, kindness and compassion find their way into that manager's heart, and I pray that she will never be left wanting for it from others.
