Post update: spoke with the owner Thomas today and discussed I le the the post below. We both agreed there are things that are correct and things that could have been explained better by both parties. One thing to point out that we discussed is when the shop sends you the results of your estimate, be sure to click on the tab that says inspection results. This would have helped me to understand what the technician was seeing and have been better informed.
Thomas did tell me some of the recommended repairs were those suggested by the Mfg to have been done at 100k miles. Spark plugs, transmission service, injector service. The car didn't have recent maintenance record posted by other techs for them to review as I do most of it myself. So they did only suggest what was recommended.
I give kudos to Thomas for reaching out to discuss my issues and offering to work with me on the repairs I will give him 4 stars for contacting me and being willing to work with me. This gives the shop an average of 3 stars.
I would now recommend this shop to others. THANKS THOMAS!
I was referred to the shop by a friend and just by chance shortly after received a coupon flyer for some discounts on services. Lucky for me, I needed an alignment done and that was one of the specials listed at $69.99. I took my car in dropped it off and received a call about 2 hours later telling me they couldn't do the alignment as the car needed new lower control arms as the bushing were wore out. They also said It needed a cabin air filter, spark plugs, fuel injectors and then asked if I wanted them to proceed with costs that would exceed $1,500. I said no and that I would come back and get the car.
When I got there they explained what the conditions were that they found and told me they couldn't guarantee the alignment without replacing the control arms. Being mechanically inclined I said I would replace the control arms and return to get it aligned as I am not able to do that portion. Imagine my surprise when I raised the front removed the tires and found all the rubber around the ball joints, bushings and connectors to be in good shape, no play in the hub to suggest a bad control arm.
This got me thinking, why did they tell me about the cabin air filter, spark plugs and fuel injectors unless they were doing so based soley on the mileage of the car 100k and not based on actually what they had "found". Now I am all for an all points inspection if that is what I came in and asked for. I came in asking for a alignment, and based on what I see of my control arms, ball joints, etc. Everything looks tight. Suggests to me they never actually raised the car or put it on the alignment rack and looked at the front end.
It has been years since I have needed a mechanic for a specific repair such as an alignment and my hope was that since this shop had been referred to me by someone I trusted, that I could also trust them to be honest in their assessment of my car and the needed repairs. Sadly this wasn't the case, and more sadly is, I won't be returning.
