This is my first negative review of Fourlane Ford and my first major repair-off warranty. Before this, my reviews were high. This is a summary of my last repair experience at the dealership and their policy on parts pricing for this repair.
I bought my F150 Platinum new in 2016 from Four Lane Ford. It has been back to the dealership approximately 40 times. They have done all mechanical work under warranty and ESP (extended warranty) and non-warranty repairs. Oil changes, brakes, windshield, minor bodywork, engine front seal, power running boards, seized brake caliper, check engine light... and more. It has been back many times, they said that ESP alone paid out over $24.000 and I have spent approximately $11,000 of my only money. The only repairs not done at this dealership were Costco tires and a windshield from Crystal Glass.
One of the repairs was the rear differential at approximately 157K. It began to howl again at approximately 205K. I did follow-up research and the suggestion was that the cause of such a premature failure may have been improper pinion bearing preload during the first overhaul.
I was charged $2328.62 for the second differential repair. I emailed the service manager requesting the opportunity to review this repair. I received a return email rejecting my request. I had no conversation with anyone from the dealership.
I want to be clear that I do not expect the dealership to lose money on a repair on my behalf.
If they had talked to me about what I thought was fair I would have suggested that I pay the full labor portion ($1198.80) plus shop supplies GST etc. and that I would pay parts at cost plus 10 or 15%. Since the parts were ordered, I would pay freight charges if there were any.
This would be a one-time-only consideration due to the second repair required under low usage, and that there may have been a chance the first repair was not done correctly. I also hoped that my loyalty to the dealership would be worth some consideration in this situation. Apparently, it is not worth much to them.
On the issue of parts pricing, I was charged Ford's suggested retail PLUS 10%. For example, PN ML3Z4209 gear and pinion suggested retail was $707.07, I was charged $787.13.
I was charged 10% over the manufacturer's suggested retail price on parts.
I didn't do a price check with other dealers before the repair, I trusted these people to do me right. My mistake.
