I have classic cars that I rent out for weddings. My 64 Ford Thunderbird was acting up regarding the convertible top. It’s a particularly difficult bit of work to figure out the electrical on this car but Bert and his guys did and saved the day. I’ll be bringing my cars back for more work.

Despite being very dissatisfied with the work done on my car (several items having to be redone and paid for at a different shop that was shocked at all of the things that were either overlooked or done incorrectly), Bert has a bad temper, to the point that I was glad to pay for all of the work to get re-done and done right, and to avoid dealing with him again. Reading his responses, he seems to have a lot of excuses, and no apologies. Most good shops would want to speak with you and work with you to make it right and not blame the customer. Not a place I would do business with again unfortunately.

Wasn’t going to say anything and let bygones be bygones however Bert is Very rude. Recommended unnecessary repairs and intentionally harassed me years later. Avoid at all costs.

I've been taking my 2004 Discovery 2 to Bert at Sports Car Centre since Dec. 2020. In total I've spend $7891.48. I haven't made a fuss about anything. We all make mistakes from time to time and it's okay to miss things. Throughout that period of time I've had a chronic coolant leak that most Disco's suffer from. For context, I purchased the vehicle with an Ultragauge installed (auxiliary engine computer). It's been very helpful in trouble shooting fault codes and engine performance. My last service was in July of this year for a leaking power steering pump. During the service, Bert called me and mentioned he found a leak at the top of my rad, and that he had a spare that he could install for me. I figured my leak was finally cured! Long story short, he called a few days later saying my vehicle was ready for pick up. I was in a hurry the day I picked it up as I needed to pick up my son from school, so when I jumped in and put it in reverse I noticed my power steering wasn't working properly...occasionally working then not. I also noticed my Ultragauge was showing error codes and flashing occasionally. I didn't think much of it thinking it was just fixed, so I rode on. While on my way home my Ultragauge was indicating that my engine temp was rising rapidly. I ended up stranded on the side of the road with an overheated engine and coolant pouring all over the place. I called Bert and we scheduled me to bring it back to him. The next day I bought some coolant, coordinated a tow truck, and took it back to Bert. Turns out he forgot to tighten a couple hose clamps that caused the leak. He also agreed that the power steering pump was faulty and changed it out. As mentioned, we're human and we all make mistakesWhen I went to pick it up I noticed nothing was mentioned or noted on my work order for the jug of coolant or the tow that I fit the bill for. When I brought it up, the front Staff said I would need to take it up with Bert. Here's what he said:Danny,The fact that you paid the tow truck company cash (under the table) is not my problem, you ask for a diagnostic check and you were charged for this, I can give you a jud coolant if you like but I am not giving you any credit on the two above mentioned .Bert van RielI was shocked by his response, and let him know. I also didn't ask for a diagnostic. One would think a business would feel responsible for faulty work and wouldn't question a measly $100 tow and $19.95 coolant receipt....especially when a customer spent nearly $8000 with them! At least an offer to pay back, apply a credit for future service, or something. A face to face apology and hand shake for all the trouble would've made all the difference. I didn't receive any of that. Such a same.As a shop, it has a nostalgic british feel. They specialize in older classic vehicles, and perhaps feel a niche market is all they need to carry them through, but as businessman Bert does not know how to service good paying customers. Bert rushed through my vehicle, didn't offer any support, or care to keep a customer happy. They messed up. I would not recommend Sports Car Centre to anyone.

I worked there, unfortunately if I was to give a review of this business it wouldn't be a very positive one. Honestly in all regards very disappointing. In response to the owners comments "terminated " well in reality I was laid off and the government has that document on record as do I.As for the comment "poor performance" those are my thoughts in regards to the owner.

I have a classic vehicle and they can be counted on to help with what you need. They work on current vehicles as well so don’t be shy. If they don’t provide a particular service they’re quick to recommend someone they trust who can help.

I had been looking for a reputable shop to bring one of my Land Rovers to as it a bit of a specialty vehicle being almost 20 years old. I found Bert on an online forum and everywhere his shop was mentioned, people spoke highly of his team working there. I brought my 2002 Discovery Series II Kalahari to him needing a few mechanical repairs in order for it to pass a Salvage title inspection. It had been hit in a minor accident while parked and needed transmission hosing repairs and the “Three Amigos” lights to be corrected and turned off. Bert was great in staying in touch with me as to when to bring it in and what work needed to be done to it. He picked up a few more minor mechanical issues that it had and contacted me before we made the decision to complete the repairs. I drove it back to Calgary without any trouble and am enjoying the vehicle immensely. Thanks to Bert and his team at Sportscar Center – Great Job ! I took in 4 tires to be changed over he had them done in 2 hour I paid $60.00 cash and bought a hazard flasher dash switch for another $33.80 the part was it a bag with the Barcode , once I got home I installed the hazard switch and noticed it was a used part not new but it works so not a big deal but still !!!As far as the tires go what a nightmare I go to install them and there's no air in one the other is leaking and the other two seemed OK , I called him immediately and Bert said well they're old tires and rims he was willing to take a look at them, I asked him if they were cleaned around the beads before the install he said no, that was a Big Red Flag to me all rims need to be prepared before installing new tiresI decided to take out the valve stem and applied pressure to see how dirty they were and there was bits of the old rubber still on the rims , make no wonder they leaked it ended up all 4 tires needed to be completely redoneI did not take it back to Bert to get it redone instead I took pictures of his work for you to view and paid another tire shop to r & r Never again would I ever trust this place to do anything for me again I'm glad it stopped here I'm sure many people have been taken it hard compared to me so I consider myself lucky, that being said I gave him an idea that I would be spending lots on this car in the near future total restoration he could of had Mr for thousands now he won't get any of my work very sad workmanship
