I have lived in the Didsbury area for approximately a decade, a place I’ve come to know intimately. Fortunate enough to have been spared serious medical concerns for the majority of this time, my recent minor medical issues necessitated visits to the local hospital’s laboratory services. Given the often-heard criticisms surrounding lab services throughout the province, I approached my first visit with a degree of skepticism. However, my experiences have compelled me to share a different narrative. On two separate occasions, I utilized the lab services at Didsbury Hospital. Despite my initial reservations, both visits were marked by efficiency and professionalism that stood in stark contrast to the negative perceptions commonly associated with such facilities. My latest visit, a walk-in, was particularly notable. Upon arrival, the sight of a queue led me to brace for a lengthy wait. However, the laboratory technician, Ashley, managed the flow of patients with such skill and speed that any concern about delays swiftly dissipated. Remarkably, Ashley was operating solo on this day, a fact that was all but imperceptible given her proficiency and pace. From the moment I arrived to the moment I departed, a mere 30 minutes had elapsed. This level of efficiency, especially under the circumstances of a single technician handling the workload, is commendable. Ashley’s ability to manage her responsibilities, ensuring that each patient received prompt and careful attention, was nothing short of extraordinary. Additionally, Ashley’s vibrant, bubbly personality and sense of humor made the experience not just bearable but actually enjoyable, a stark contrast to some of my lab experiences in Calgary. While it’s true that the system sometimes falls short, these instances are not the fault of any frontline staff. Rather, they are a reflection of the broader challenges within healthcare systems. My experiences at the Didsbury District Lab Services have been overwhelmingly positive. The professionalism, efficiency, and care demonstrated by the staff, especially under potentially stressful conditions, have not only dispelled the negativity often heard about lab services in the province but have also instilled a sense of confidence and appreciation for the hard work and dedication of individuals like Ashley. Hopefully, I don’t have to utilize these services very often, but I know that if I do, I am in the hands of caring professionals. Thanks again,Walk-in number 42

Would not suggestthere is no communication with the patients small waiting room only one patient was seen within the three hours of me waiting there. They have multiple staff sitting on the desk, discussing other patient treatment plans, and stating their name highly unprofessional. It’s a shame I pay so much in tax dollars and can’t be seen, well our funds go to staff sitting and keeping a seat, warm and not focussing on the patients that need care healthcare should be reevaluated and monitored. I wish I made a taping of their conversation. I’m sure they would lose their job for breaking ethics.

Terrible service when you don’t book an appointment. Very sad to see the line up and no nurses.

I was here this summer because I had a long night and I slammed my finger into a door of a vehicle and It hurt like heck. The doctors here helped me to get better and treated me super well. The front desk people were super funny and really nice! Thanks For saving my finger!

This has to be the worst hospital in central Alberta. The waiting times are absolutely atrocious, on call doctors just can't seem to make it in, I witnessed a nurse come way to close to injecting a patient with air from a syringe, and my girlfriend had been in here for 3 days more than she should have because they keep giving her too much insulin. I wouldn't go to his hospital for absolutely anything ever again.6 years later we had to make a desperate trip here due to my wife being possibly dehydrated. They got her hooked up to an iv pretty quick but we've been here for 7 hours and the iv ran out about 4 hours ago. So yeah my previous review is still very valid. Stay as far away as you can from this terrible excuse of a hospital.

One of the worst hospital experiences I’ve had. Had to wait 5 hours just for a prescription and was forgotten about for 2 hours while the doctor sat and gossiped with the nurses. My boyfriend had to remind the staff I was still a patient who needed to be seen. Won’t be going back again

I went in with my partner initially it went well the nurses were nice enough but we waited over two hours in a small room pushed far back in emergency. I like to time how long it takes at doctors offices and such we entered the room ar 10:12 and the doctor didn't come until 12:36. At 12:30 we went out to the nursing station to make sure we hadn't been forgot back there and there didn't seem to be anyone else waiting. When the doctor finally came he asked me two questions and handed me a pre signed prescription, then he starts talking to my partner who is visibly more I'll then I am and has more symptoms and proceeds to tell her she is not sick and will not be getting a prescription. After 20 minutes of testing the doctor finally gives her a prescription for a much lesser antibiotic then he game me and leaves before we can ask any more questions. When we went to the pharmacy there were some women there that heard us complaining about our experience they both knew exactly what doctor we were talking about (unfortunately I can't remember his name he said he was fairly new) then when we got home our room mate told us she has also had problems with him but non of the other doctors there have ever been an issue.

Dr Milner and Ashley were fabulous! They were able to help my husband and make him feel cared for. Home Care was wonderful as well - did all the teaching he needed and made sure he had the right supplies.

Went in for stitches and a tetanus shot in the emerg. Waited a very short amount of time. Nurses were concerned about my high blood pressure for my young age, I left knowing that they would be looking into it. Two days later I’m in for x ray, blood work and EKG. Took maybe an hour? I did a walk in at the lab blood collection. Waited maybe 10-15 minutes. Than once I was on they had my paper on file, I’m out of province visitor as well and it was no issue. Than I waited maybe 5 minutes for x ray. All the nurses were very nice, they are very efficient and knowledgeable about my questions. I would not have experienced this in my province. I frequently get my blood pressure taken and no one had raised concern in N.S like they did here in Didsbury. Those ladies deserve the best. Thank you for caring.
