August 2024 by Journey Well
I picked up my Alu -Cab Contour Canopy on the 29th of July, 2024. As well as the canopy I purchased several accessories. A security screen, cross bars with feet and 6 rubber lock protectors. It was an expensive day. (Including the $250 shipping they charge for oversize items)In order to save some money, I decided to install everything myself. I’m fairly handy ?(It would have been close to $500 to have everything installed)
Everything was fairly straightforward. Directions online for the canopy install as well the load bars. No directions for the security screen, brake light wiring install , interior lighting and the rubber lock protectors (the easiest of the installs but proved to be the most frustrating-on a customer service level)
The last part, the rubber lock protectors ($20. Each x 6) Very straight forward, one 8mm nylon lock on each lock. Remove the lock, place rubber. Ur done! Lock # 6 I could tell was slightly tighter than the rest, and then it broke from the plastic housing. You could see the nut was cross threaded and I was at a standstill. This is where the poor customer service comes into play.
I called Mona at Cap-It, the person who was our initial point of contact. She contacted her Alu-Cab Rep who advised her that I should have been ‘more gentle and used Locktite’ to assist with the removal. (I’ve never heard of using that to assist with a removal of a nut-especially from a plastic housing. I more or less had to beg to get some assistance from Cap-It. Mona was more or less accusing me of it being my fault and I had to insist that it was Alu-Cabs initial installation which caused the cross thread. She finally relented and advised she would order the part but I would have to go to Calgary to pick it up. It’s a 120 km drive which just adds up to a very expensive truck cap.
This is a lot of writing which I don’t usually do. I don’t understand how bad the customer service was for a .25 part that will ending costing me more time and money.
My review of the Alu-Cab Contour Cap is outstanding! A quality cap that I don’t regret purchasing and so glad I didn’t go with a Chinese knockoff.
My review of Cap-It is very poor customer service. If there was another option for you to buy your Alu-Cab I’d look for it rather than buying here.
?
P.S. I requested the mangers email address and sent them an email over 24 hours ago. No response.

I went in because my new LEER canopy cracked in several places along the door skirt. I was told he might be able to get it covered under warranty (just out of 1 year warranty but door has only been opened 30 times) but if not the part was only $150. He sent the claim after taking pics and 3 months later still no word from them so I went in and asked if they heard back from LEER.
They have no record of me coming in or the warranty claim being sent and the price now went up to $250. That's just Shaddy as hell.
Will be going elsewhere. $250 for a common door skirt is insane, it's $150 elsewhere here in town.

Stumbled upon Cap-it after a terrible experience at the Truck Outfitters and I'm glad I did. Your one stop location for latest products and believe it or not I was able to find parts for my 1992 canopy. Thank you Mona and Bill for the phenomenal service.

I’m trying to do business at this place. It seems they couldn’t care less. The lady on the phone didn’t go out of her way to help me and couldn’t answer simple questions. I’m glad there are alternatives.

Recently ordered a SmartCap for our truck, but the next morning decided it wouldn't work for us, so went to get a refund and cancel the order (note order made the day before). It was VERY clear they were not happy with the cancel order and said they didn't want to keep the cover, but game in for the refund. Then told they were no longer interested in our business when trying to buy a different cover that would work better for our family. We will NEVER be going here again for any accessories for our Jeep or Truck!

Don't waste your time, Big Bill will tell you "don't call us we will call you". Poor customer service. Terrible warranty on snug top products. No accountability... Go anywhere other than this place.
