We used to stay at this hotel every year on our annual trip to Calgary. We are suckers for punishment. He would not have the heat on in the rooms until we got there, so it would be frozen cold when we went to bed, and a million degrees by 4 in the morning. Rooms were very dated, as were the sheets, bed spreads, bathroom, etc. There is a new Hotel right across the street that now gets our business, the price is about the same, but there is no comparison in quality. Hopefully we will never have to stay at the Prairie Schooner again.

We checked into this motel at 8.30pm after travelling for many hours with 2 dogs. We did see the room first and although not great, I thought it may not be too bad. How wrong I was! After 30 minutes I Approached the owner and told him it was not acceptable due to threadbare carpets, sunken floors and generally poor condition. He told me I could only get 50% refund as we had been there for 30 minutes. It took us that time to get our truck unloaded and take our two dogs for a quick walk. We had to stay as at that time it was too late to continue. There were burn marks in the carpet and the whole place was very, very bad. I think in giving the place one star I am being generous, but I don't think you do no stars! I have owned motels and been in the hospitality business all my working life, and would always offer a refund, but this guy is not in my caliber. anyone reading this review, do yourself a favour and don't stay here!

0 STARS! DUMP! STAY AWAY AND THANK ME LATER!Where do I begin?OWNER is RUDE and unwelcoming. Per person charge, even if you have children of any age. Told us room was non-smoking, once we settled in we noticed that everything smelled like stale smoke, and whole carpet was covered in cigarette burns. When brought it up to his attention, he looked at us as if we were insane and quote "I bought this hotel 15 years ago, this room no smoke 5 years" so why is the smell of the smoke? "no smoke here today, may be before". To top this experience, off, in the morning we found only 2 towels, and I wanted few extra towels for my kids and since we paid per person my husband went outside to speak to the owner. Owner replied "when you finish towel, bring wet one I give you clean". My husband walked out with wet hair to get some fresh towels (not even a full size towel). When leaving my husband returned the key and politely thanked the owner. He pretended not to hear my husband and ignored him. We were happy and excited to leave this property and I believe the feeling was mutual.Bottom Line:Although the price begins at $55, trust me, its worth driving an extra 40 minutes to stay away from this place. NOT A FAMILY PLACE. NO HOSPITALITY, NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. NEEDS MOJOR RENOVATION (everything is 15+ years old). If you wanna feel unwelcome this is the right place for you.P.S. He wanted to charge us for each family member, but gave us discount for our 1 y.o son free. When my husband asked why children of ages 3 and under pay, he stated "baby make more mess". For this discount this place deserves 1*.
