Not only do they have free books outside of the storefront, their prices take me back to a time when we didn't have to panic existentially over the cost of food and medicine. My most recent score was an Edgar Allen Poe coffee table book for $2. I spent a lot of time in there and plan to return. So nice to see affordable books again, it gave me a little hope.”
“I am a local Juneau person and I love Rainy Retreat Books! Wherever I travel, my wife and I make it a point to visit used bookstores. RR compares well to even City Lights in SF or Capitol Hill Books in DC. This is an independent, owner operated endeavour located in the charming historic downtown Juneau Valentine Building. All kinds of books are offered and there is a great selection of Alaskan literature, including new books. Vinyl records are also available. I enjoy catching up with my friends year around when we meet at the store or chatting there with a visitor to Juneau during the summer tourist season. If you are enthusiastic about reading, this is a must-visit.”
