Nice, small, clean gallery in an area with a couple of them. We went for a show by Klara Maisch called "GroundTRUTH". It was a series of paintings done of the mountains of Alaska IN the mountains of Alaska! I have been to many of the places myself, and I was shocked at how well they were captured in paint. These paintings look like photos from a distance but, when you get up on them, look like much more stylized art. Deducted a star because the woman running the show ran up to me to tell me no photos were allowed as I started to take a photo. Then she came back a few minutes later to say that they were allowed. Uh, OK.

The gallery does an excellent job of presenting a variety of Alaskan artists and their contemporary works. They also offer specific exhibits, such as the annual Rarified Light photography show.

Thor Evenson's current retrospective is highly recommended for a rich and in depth art experience rarely encountered in Anchorage. This small room at the International Gallery contains a packed display of this talented and versatile artist's lifetime of fascinating painting, drawing, sculpture, and architectural design. There is realistic and abstract work and everything in between as this artist experimented with everything his hands touched from acrylics, watercolors, pen and ink and graphite drawings, mixed media and found objects-others' garbage. The subject matter ranges from Europe to Seattle to the Kenai River. There are fascinating small drawings of European portals and large colorful acrylics of the life in Cook Inlet commercial salmon fishing by this highline fisherman-artist. The range is impressive and amazing. You will be delighted. Missing are his coveted doodles and cartoons, and any evidence of a further skill: his commercial boat designs and museum quality boat models. His boats are the beauties of the Cook Inlet fleet, a "sculpture from every angle" as he put his well-realized intention. But how much talent can you pack into this small space?! You will be richly rewarded with a visit.
