It seems the price goes up as the amount of cat food dwindles. Now I know this is the manufacturer who does this but can't the store fight for us? Every little bit helps. The store, however is always clean and neat, it is always staffed well with knowledgeable people. I keep going back for that reason.

I came in to look at a couple of rats they had and they had them in wildly inadequate housing (I mean they were in the tiniest, shallow rack bin possible with nothing but food, water, and wood chips as bedding. No wheel, no saucer, no hides, no chews, nothing.) One of the rats even had a sore on her stomach. The situation with the mice was not healthy at all either. There were bins with mice in them and they were completely full of babies. While normally that wouldn’t be a problem they had newborn mice in with older mice which results in babies getting eaten more often than not. There should never be any mice except for the mom and the newborns in the habitat. They also told me that one of the moms had her babies a month ago and they just left them in with her. If you know anything about mice you’ll know that they can reproduce at 4 weeks of age and will inbreed resulting in health issues. They should have been separated by gender but the worker wasn’t even sure how to tell the gender of a mouse or a rat as I had to determine if the rats were male or female myself to see if they would be able to go in with my current pet rats. The worker also called the mice rats multiple times after it was pointed out that those were mice. How can a store that carries both not even know the difference? If they were trying to breed mice they should at least do it correctly. The worker grabbed rats by the tail as well which can result in spinal injuries as rats are way heavier than mice (not that you should grab either by the tail). It was wildly upsetting that a pet store would treat their animals like that even if they are intended as feeders they should be cared for in the meantime. I understand most people don’t know a lot about small animal care but it’s a pet store, that’s literally their job. They should be the most knowledgeable of anyone. The fish tanks were also disgusting and overcrowded with fish.

Super great employees, very helpful. Purchased a high quality large birdcage for the 2 parakeets I just received with only a travel cage while I'm quarantining them from the one I've had for 8 years. They definitely seem more comfortable than squished up in a too tiny cage. I purchased one that was the floor model & they took it apart for me to fit in my vehicle. Helped me locate the dog food I also came in for since mine is getting older & her vet recommended transitioning to a senior diet.

Loved the store, got a new furry family member. Decent selection of healthy animals and some cats for adoption. Prices a little higher than other stores but convenience and quality even out.

A nice little place tucked in the corner that has just about anything you'd need for your pets. I was surprised that they actually sold crickets there. I came in expecting to be disappointed, and without fail, they brought some out!

Jackson is my favorite employee at PET SUPERMARKET in Vestavia, Al. He was very helpful each time I shopped there and was very good at introducing me to new products for my 16 foster cats. I tried to give him a tip one day but he refused. He said he wanted me to use the money for my 16 foster cats....he said they needed it more than he did. Susan

most staff very helpful and friendly, in particular the guy with dark hair and glasses (cant remember his name), but the associate ringing up my items (different guy) gave the vibe that checking out my items was an inconvenience to him, and refused to use the employee discount on my partner's account. not sure if the policy has changed since the last time ive been to a pet supermarket, but this is the first issue ive had with it. regardless, i'll still be coming back here if necessary.

Saturday 7/15/23 we visited the Vestavia location and saw some Butterfly Koi priced $18.99 for 3-4 inches. After talking to the clerk about them we told him we were going to the movies now but will be back afterwards to buy a few of the Koi. We just returned to the store picked out the ones we wanted. Then noticed that between the time we left and returned to buy them the clerk took the $18.99 tag away and left the more expensive tag $22.99. The clerk then acted like he didn't know what we were talking about. Needless to say we handed back the Koi and left. That behavior did nothing but loose Pet Supermarket new customers. We had planed to not only buy a few fish, but also a bunny and all the items needed for thar new bunny and any future needed supplies.
