obscene commercials never show uplifting animal stories or mention spay neuter. They exploit animal suffering for money

It’s easier to get approved for a mortgage. 15 years ago I adopted my dog from them. A smooth process back then. I recently applied for a dog and the background check was just too much. Being a prior military family and moving many many times in those 15 years obviously is not okay with their approval process. My dog is 15 years old. He’s lived an excellent healthy and happy life and sees a vet when needed and gets his annual shots from a mobile pet clinic (which also was not okay in their view). My denial email said that I did not meet their Board requirements, this mostly being that my dog is not on heartworm prevention. This was a decision by my vet and myself after the past couple of years my dog began having seizures, instead of putting my dog on seizure medication, which I wanted to avoid as much as possible, with the guidance of my vet we started eliminating things that may have caused this. The assumption is that my dog became more sensitive as he aged and developed a sensitivity to the heartworm medication. The seizures stopped completely, so yes, my dog is not on heartworm prevention due to the advice of my vet at that time. This was explained to Jody over the phone. Also, the SPCA couldn’t simply call up one vet office to get 15 years worth of records. This was explained to them by email and over the phone. It was too much work on their end. So unhappy with this. With that said, Janine was responsive and pleasant but Jody was just nasty about the whole thing. I have always supported organizations like this and never wanted to buy from a breeder. After this process, I will probably never support or seek to adopt a pet from a rescue. It was heart wrenching waiting a week to hear from them. I got the run around. As much as I don’t like the idea of buying from a breeder, it’s definitely the direction I will go in the future. This was ridiculous. I will not entertain even trying to explain anything on their response to this. I’ve seen the other reviews and how they respond. This entire review is exactly what happened to me. Simple fact, had we not been prior military, I probably would’ve been easily approved.

Me and my family brought our dog to them because they are a no kill shelter and we came back 30mins after we drop the dog off to find him in the middle of the road. Very unhappy with this business.

We went to this nasty place to adopt a puppy we had been waiting about week on, after several days of phone calls they called to set up a meet and great to pick him up, upon arrival they us told he had been approved for transport to Michigan and we could not adopt him. They sent the poor dog to Michigan rather than give it a good home in Mobile. They give you the third degree to make sure you give it a nice home when their place is one of the nastiest places I have ever been in. You just don’t yank people around for a week and then treat them this way. I will never support the Mobile SPCA in anyway again and will tell everyone I know not to support them. Nasty place, Bad business.

They aren't looking toplace dogs, they are looking for perfect people! They were extremely rude to my wife. Then sent a message asking for a donation. The place was very nasty. The pound in West Mobile is much cleaner and the people kinder.

Very unprefessional, and unkept. My mom went in to get a dog after our family dog of 14 years passed away and they had her wait while they called every vet around for records. We have moved multiple times in the last 6 years due to medical treatments, which means multiple vets NOT in the are. We also tried explaining that me and my husband helped take the dog to the vet because she doesn't drive and that his visits were under our name but that didn't matter. We didn't get to even see the dogs, and my mom is heart broken. We have 27 acers and a giant fenced in area, and we take our kids to the park right next to a dog park almost three times a week. She makes her dogs truly apart of the family and and is a great owner, just wanted to give a dog a good home. We wanted to adopt from a shelter but I am probably just going to buy a dog from a breeder now because I want her to have a new dog and this experience has been so frustrating that I don't want to go back to an SPCA again.

Went to donate a few items and I thought the ladies in the office were very nice and friendly! Had no issues in making my donations. Also I got to say, I have to give a shout-out at the person who responds to the reviews (mainly the negative reviews). It's refreshing to see a business tell their side of the story and also it's a little entertaining to read!

Filled out application for pet they never contacted to let us know if they accepted our stuff. Workers were rude on the phone. Coming from someone who works at a vet I will not be recommending them for adoptions. Ended up going with wags and whiskers they were nice and responded within 24hours the name is under Kelsi Huggins in regards to Bosley

I arrived and asked to see who they had available for adoption. I was told I could not even visit with the pups available until I fill out an adoption application. I asked again to be sure I heard her correctly. Once she confirmed, I said, “okay, thank you”. I was not offered an application, I was not directed where to go to fill one out online, I was simply disregarded as she made her way into, what I assume she felt, would be a more interesting conversation. I should have known considering my experience with them years ago when I was denied an adoption experience due to being a single working parent and not having “adequate time” by their standards. Judging by their combative and defensive response in recent poor reviews, I assume I should fully expect a keyboard full from them. Unfortunately, their responses accurately reflect the attitude I received that day when I visited…. I suggest going up the road to MCAS where your visit alone will be greatly appreciated and your experience is much more pleasant.

These are very hard working folks who do a great job with the animals under their care. I have borrowed cat traps from this SPCA on multiple occasions and they make this process quick and easy (and free with returnable deposit). I am really glad for this resource as these traps are very expensive. The people leaving a one star review for every d*** reason under the sun have no idea how rescue operates or how hard these people work. Their cats and dogs are well cared for and are excellent options if you are looking to adopt.
