If you get food stamps, the felons in the program, will make sure you get the bottom bunk. Them felons run the place. A long with the security guards. They know how to stop the camera, so the felons can go through bends. And get there personal information. It's really a bad place. They feed the homeless garbage. Felons in the program eats better.

There are some nice staff members there! Graduation staff members and Security steal from the homeless! Your donations don't go to the homeless. They in there wearing chains and flashing clothes and shoes out the donation. The food is not suitable. They stole important paperwork from me like court documents and identification. They steal the homeless meds.

Some of the staff are mean and hateful to the homeless behind closed doors, seen it with my own eyes. Your not allowed to set anywhere on the property without the security guard running you off, the food is garbage and your not always promised a mat to sleep on I've slept in the bare floor in the hallway, and the bathrooms and shower rooms stink of human waste. They let people come in drunk and High they take your cell phones so you can't expose them, I remember grabbing a mat from a room that was filled with them only to be told in a very hateful manner to put it back and also some of the staff single people out. The staff side sleep and eat better than the homeless side, that place needs to be closes you can't even stand outside of the gates without the security running you off are calling the police it's more of a prison then a homeless shelter.

**The Downtown Rescue Mission in Huntsville, Alabama: A Blatant Violation of Human Rights and Decency**It is nothing short of astonishing that a facility affiliated with a "Christian" church can exhibit such flagrant disregard for the welfare of homeless individuals, particularly women and children. The testimonies I've gathered are nothing short of shocking, and it's a testament to the depths of mismanagement at this institution. In 2022, I raised concerns about the deplorable conditions within the shelter, including the presence of black mold in the showers. At the height of a global pandemic, staff members were recklessly serving food while visibly unwell, blatantly ignoring basic health protocols. To my dismay, my attempts to bring this to the attention of local news outlets were fruitless, as they instead chose to run a solicitation for donations, clearly sidestepping the critical issues at hand.Fast forward to 2023, and the problems persist. While the mold issue may have been resolved, the new director Tenielle Harkins of the emergency women's shelter appears to have a callous and dismissive attitude towards homeless women, especially those with children. Reports from employees and volunteers reveal a hostile environment where children are denied proper rest, denied access to necessary dietary accommodations, and subjected to round-the-clock lighting, leaving them perpetually sleep-deprived.Additionally, this so-called shelter imposes draconian rules, reminiscent of a prison environment. The restrictions on personal phones and arbitrary limitations on phone use for mothers with children are excessive. Special treatment for favored individuals further underscores the deeply flawed management at this facility.Given the substantial funding they receive from donations and government grants, it is a disgrace that The Downtown Rescue Mission fails to provide even basic necessities. It is abundantly clear that a complete overhaul of staff from top to bottomis long overdue. A thorough investigation into the practices and management of this shelter is warranted to protect the rights and dignity of the individuals it claims to serve. The Downtown Rescue Mission in Huntsville, Alabama, is a stark example of how an institution can lose sight of its mission, leaving those in need to suffer the consequences of its mismanagement and disregard for the most vulnerable in our community.

I am ashamed to give it the one star because it doesn't deserve it. My Deacon thought that it would be a place to help me get a new start, obviously he hasn't seen the inside in many years. The outside looks very appealing with the grass neatly manicured but the inside is beyond filthy, the men's resroom was absolutely disgusting, and I'm still dealing with bedbug bites. I heard men fighting and using the Lord's name badly. This place has nothing that I saw that had anything to do with Jesus. I was only there for a few days and was trying to learn the rules and there were many. I went to the dining room for a cup of water and it was snatched from my hand and poured out. I was scolded and told that I wasn't allowed in there until dinner time. I thought it was very rude and could have been handled in a much nicer way. The men's restroom had no toilet paper! The walls were filthy the floors were worse and I never saw anyone cleaning anything? The food wasn't friendly if you were diabetic like I am, bread, rice, potatoes, mixed fruit in heavy syrup.if you didn't eat it you received nothing else. I was there for 3 days and it was a nightmare. The looks on everyone's face to me was saying please don't let me wake up tomorrow. How is this place still open? Does the health department not inspect this place? I was there for 3 day and fortunately a fantastic friend came to my rescue and got me out of that infested dump. There are signs posted at the outside entrance that there's no smoking in that area but as I was walking in security was standing there smoking a cigarette! The fenced in area of the mission, is a joke, you can't sit anywhere not even sit on the grass and enjoy the sunshine the way that I believe God would want us to. The front yard is just for eye appeal. Please don't send anyone there because it has nothing to do with God and they're doing more damage to people mentally and physically. When I was leaving the facility many of the workers said that they didn't blame me for leaving, and that tells me that they don't want to be there either. How well are any of them going to serve the people staying there when the workers don't want to be there themselves?

Dtrm is a great resource for the homeless. They have overnight bedding, serve 3 meals a day, showers, 2 designated laundry days per week, provide clothes and hygiene products, tv, and have an outdoor smoking area. I don't agree with every aspect of dtrm, however I'd say that many are 100% better off thanks to them.
