I have been going to Standifer's for decades and will never go back. There is one vet tech, Mark, who is amazing. Sadly, he works at a dumpster fire. They are expensive, staff turnover is high, and the level of care has dropped precipitously since Dr. Standifer stepped away from the business. Medications have been forgotten multiple times. After two biopsies there were no post-procedure instructions. Overall, sloppy work from individuals phoning it in under a past owner's good reputation. Overpriced dumpster fire. Even the grooming was lackluster. But the final straw was paying thousands of dollars for diagnostic tests and biopsies and receiving zero empathy or, more relevantly, answers to our pet's problem. I'd rather eat at Arby's than trust Standifer's ever again.

My 15 week old puppy developed a decreased appetite and had a few episodes of vomiting over night. I called the clinic as soon as they opened and they got me in that morning with Dr. Beth Cobb. My dog vomited all over my car on the drive there, the staff was so kind, got me cleaning supplies and held my dog while I quickly cleaned out my car. They got us back right away and did multiple tests. The tech, Summer, was so good with my puppy and very knowledgeable. Dr. Cobb was absolutely amazing, thorough and made me feel like family! I wish I could give more than 5 stars because the Standifer Animal Clinic is the best!

Our foster puppy had an urgent issue requiring same-day evaluation. We called Standifer's as new customers at noon on a Friday and we were offered an appointment at 2:30. Our puppy had a full physical exam, two procedures (ultrasound and cystocentesis), a diagnosis, and all medications in hand within 2 hours. Dr. Stephen LaRocca was very welcoming, friendly, thorough, honest, and compassionate. He took more than enough time to explain his thought process and plan of care. His very patient vet tech went above and beyond to show my husband and I how to administer our puppy's medications correctly, making sure we felt comfortable with the process, and she answered all of our questions. We have a family pup that we currently take to another vet, but we plan to switch to Standifer's for all of our pets' urgent and preventative needs. 10/10 would recommend entrusting Standifer's for the care of your furry loved ones.

I had my differences with Dr. Washington. I took my Old English Sheepdog in for ear infection, paid $300.00 for an office visit, ear culture and ear drops and two rounds of it did not clear it up. I asked on more than one occasion that he be prescribed something PO and he refused. Instead he wanted me to bring Bentley back in to be sedated and have more cultures done. The first ones already showed we were dealing with a yeast infection and doing additional cultures wouldn't have accomplished a thing. But, this would have run my bill up another three or four hundred dollars. All he would have done was put him on something by mouth afterwards anyway. He must not have ever heard of multi factorial coverage. I was NOT paying $600 to $700 for a simple yeast infection. He should have been put on the proper medication to begin with. I saved Bentley from having to be sedated and put through undue pain and me an additional $400.00. There's no amount of money I wouldn't spend on my little buddies health and well being. But I'm not made of money nor was I going to be taken advantage of. And that's exactly what I feel Dr. Washington tried to do. I took Bentley to a reputable Vet and he prescribed a PO antibiotic and corticosteroid along with an anti-fungal topical solution (something else he refused to give me) and his ear was better within a few days. Something Dr. Washington should have done after two failed attempts with a topical solution. He just wanted to milk me for as much as he possibly could. One thing for sure is he didn't have mine or Bentley's best interest at heart and I will never use them again. He was at great risk of developing an aura hematoma from vigorous head shaking and this yeast infection needed cleared up asap. If you can relate and feel that you are being charged excessively chances are you're right. There are a lot of good Vets out there who aren't so gung ho when it comes to hitting you with excessive bills. Check around and do your homework. You just have to find them. Believe me, your pet will thank you and so will your wallet. Totally inexcusable.

They helped my sweet cat on his trip over the Rainbow Bridge. The vets and staff there couldn't have been nicer. It has been a hard loss but Standifer's made it as easy as possible. Many thanks to them!!!

The worst boarding experience I've ever had with my dog. We were referred here by our vet because they were full for the weekend. When I picked him up, he had dry urine and feces all over his paws and legs. They were unable to give him a bath (because he was being grumpy) which I completely understand. What they never told me is that he was only let out to use the restroom twice a day. They also didn't tell me that the "kennels" are separated by chainlink fences, meaning that

We really appreciate the efforts of going above and beyond by Dr Cooley with our cat Puff! She & staff amazingly worked with Puff on his grooming so he did not have to utilize anesthesia! This is a major accomplishment since we hesitate each time before bringing him in for a Lion Cut. We would like to maintain this fur style and bring him in for this 4 times a year, and now I feel that we can do this. I feel Dr Cooley’s talent and expertise with Cats makes this possible. Thanks Dr Cooley!

Standifer has been taking care of my doggos since I moved to Birmingham. They always do whatever I request for grooming and my girls get wonderful vet care as well. The curbside service is so convenient... hope it remains an option even after the pandemic.

A month ago this place was the greatest but I can't get anyone to call me back regarding my cat Fernando's procedures to let me know how we should proceed with his care. I have found that most vet's in Birmingham treat your pets care like an animal and not a member of the family even after all the money you spend.
