This is definitely a hidden gem in Birmingham. Open about 2 years this cozy modern wine bar is a must try. Staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable but didn't hover. The suggestions they made for us were great. The charcuterie board was very balanced and plenty for two to snack on. We'd definitely go back if in the area.

We stopped in while waiting on a table at Pizzeria GM and really enjoyed our time! The staff was kind and helpful in picking out a glass, the atmosphere was very calming and laid back. We were there early and did have some people in line behind us picking up bottles to go. A fun stop for happy hour or date night!

I love this place. The wine is delicious, I actually bought my favorite Cabernet Sauvignon I’ve ever had from here. The staff make it a truly welcoming experience and are very helpful when it comes to selecting wines. There is no hint of wine snobbery, just some people that want you to leave with the best bottle of wine for your occasion. Last but not least, what keeps me coming back are their events. They seem to always have some sort of local food/artist/etc. which is something so special to me. This place has a bright future and I am so happy I found it. Follow them on Instagram to see what they’ve got going on! @bukabhm

Charming addition to West Homewood. It's as though the whole neighborhood popped up like a mushroom and left a charming, eclectic wine bar under its umbrella with sleek design, a bright and amiable wine crew, and a perfect selection of vino and nosh. Bravo!

Buka is a breath of fresh air! Their cooler section is full of local goods, not to be missed are their marinated olives! Their wine selections offer interesting varietals. The knowledgeable staff helps send me home with fun new wines to try. My latest fave a Sancerre. I live out of town but make sure I leave time to stop shop and have a fabulous fresh bowl or salad for lunch. The outdoor seating is very pleasant and you can catch some shade under the trees while you eat.

I love this place. Unique and beautiful. The couscous bowl is equally filling and refreshing and the sandwiches are delicious for on the go. Such a great collection of your new favorite things.

YOU ARE BRIE-LAINT!I have always been fascinated by the idea of charcuterie boards. Meat, cheese, crackers, jams and spreads. All put together on a large or even sometimes small cheese board. Everyone has their own special preferences as to what 'belongs" on a charcuterie board, which makes for fun and sometimes exciting dinner parties. Definitely a good taking point for those introverts out there. Charcuterie boards are typically pretty large in both size and quantity. Recently I have been seeing some trends from catering companies and other small businesses with an idea for single serving charcuterie. Who ever is the genius who came up with this idea, you deserve a metal. A single sized charcuterie board may consist of just the basics. Some cured meats, one or two types of cheeses, olives and possibly some nuts or dried fruit. Just enough for one person to get a tasting of a few different textures and flavors. Located in the West part of Homewood, on Oxmoor road stands this small wine and cheese shop called Buka. Buka translates to a casual restaurant, typically selling food that is prepared ahead of time. And that is exactly what this store is. Not only do they sell wine and cheeses, but they also have a small fridge that contains meals on the go. I would not exactly classify this store as a wine store, but rather a specialty store instead. There are some salads, dips, spreads, and of course single serving charcuterie boards. Obviously, I had to get one! This one included: prosciutto, salami, brie and a small container of olives. It was the perfect snack and a great way to start off my day. The owner even came by at one point and bought be a glass of water. The simple gesture was so kind and not what you would typically see in your everyday wine store. While I was there, I decided to chat a little with the owner Jeremy. He is a lovely bushy haired man. This small local business has only been opened for a year maybe a year and a half. The offer wine tastings and pairings with their charcuterie platters. I am not sure if they do catering, but I am sure that if they do charcuterie catering it would be beautiful. If you are looking for a quaint spot to try some wine and talk with a very outgoing and informative man, then this is the spot you need to check out. The shop offers wine by the glass everyday, so if you get the chance, gather some friends and have a fun night tasting, pairing and having fun!
