In response to the negative review posted on Ole Bay Mercantiles Google reviews. To Leanne B regarding the negative review: I am the owner of the store and had the interaction with your son. Your son was at a display in my store unattended by any adult. While there was a “try me” button on 2 musical Santa figurines, your son was playing with the button in such way that it looked like he was mashing the buttons on a video game. My first comment to him was to please stop repeatedly pushing the buttons down. He ignored my request and continued to play with the buttons. My next action was to ask him where his parents were, so that I may speak to them directly about his disregard for my property. There are many items in my store that are fragile and can be broken. We kindly ask parents to instruct their children to “look with their eyes and not their hands”, but there was no parent. The mother then came into the store and listened to her son complain about my interaction with him. The mother then began to yell at me for talking to her son and left the store. The father then came in the store and yelled at me for talking to their son about his behavior. This was a teaching moment for these parents to teach their children about respecting other people’s property and other adults. I expected an apology from the parents, but received what is wrong with our children and society today…no respect for property or authority. We have a lovely gift store that welcomes all to browse and shop. Our store has been here for 34 years. Ole Bay is frequented and loved by locals and tourists alike. What an amazing place!! There are so many unique pieces of art, kitchen stuff, stained glass, and even a huge selection of designer headbands. There's something for everyone.

I normally don’t leave bad reviews but our experience has weighed heavily on my heart. Today was the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. I was shocked at how rude and hateful the lady was towards me and my son. He pushed a button that said “try me” and when I asked him if he would like for me to buy it she walked up to us and scolded me and my child for touching things. All he did was press the “try me” button, nothing else. He left the store in tears and I was speechless as to how we were treated. All for pushing a button so he could hear the Christmas music. Shame on you for showing how ugly you can be towards a child and you should be ashamed of yourself. We came in your store to shop and you treated us like we were beneath you. You followed us around like we were potential criminals. I was caught off guard and didn’t know how to respond so I told her we would leave. Luckily, my husband went back inside and quickly put her in her place. We are from the area and own a successful business. We would never treat our customers the way you treated us. We will never step foot back in this store.

Fairhope shop with unique decor and gifts. It is reasonably priced (a little on the high end but worth it). My wife and I bought several items here on our last trip.

Really cute store with lots to offer and we purchased several items. HOWEVER, we asked to use the restrooms and were told they had a restroom, but it was not public. I can understand if they don't want the "public" coming in just to use the restroom, but we had purchased several items. Fortunately, the restaurant, Another Broken Egg, was gracious and allowed restroom use without a purchased, Customer service should extend even after money is exchaneed.
