Very poor pricing with little to no reason. Charged a storage fee while working on vehicle on their own time. Terrible!

I hate to leave a negative review, especially for a local family-owned business — but my experience here has left a bad taste in my mouth.1) Did not go over prices or get consent from me following a discussion on price/estimates before performing repairs. Was lectured about how "that's just how all mechanics operate and how things are always done." I know I may LOOK young&inexperienced, but between my husband and I, we have x3 17-22 year old vehicles that've been serviced at least x2 per year each at various mechanics across the country (from Arizona to Illinois to Alabama). Not once have I ever had a mechanic perform repairs without first discussing an estimate and getting consent to repair following that discussion. This leads into point 2.2) I came in to get my AC fixed, and mentioned that he'd need to use pliers on my hood latch lever to open the hood since the plastic lever broke off. The hood latch release cable itself worked fine. Again, you just needed to use pliers to pull where the plastic bit had broken off, since it's hard to get a good grip on it with your hands. He asked me if I wanted that fixed too, I said sure — I figured he'd just quickly screw on a new lever handle on there for maybe $20 or so. He proceeded to tack on an extra $130 charge to replace the entire cable on top of the hefty AC repair. Again, if he had communicated with me at all (point 1) before performing any repairs, I would've said "no" because that's not what I wanted done. I would have also said no to the AC repair as well had I known the estimate beforehand. He eventually agreed to take the extra charge off & put my old release cable back. Once I got my car back home though, we realized the hood release was completely broken and the hood would not stay latched, which meant my car has been undriveable for an additional 4-5 days until the new release cable I ordered came in (a whopping $10.77 part btw). It took my husband less than an hour to replace it.Take this review as you will — he has to be a decent mechanic for the most part to get such positive reviews over the years. Unfortunately, I just didn't have that experience.
