“While I most certainly recommend Publix for buying groceries, I was very disappointed in how I was treated this morning by a lady in the Calera Publix bakery. I don't know what her name is but she was elderly, short, and had glasses. I had come to buy a Red Velvet cake for Christmas Eve and I asked that if I kept the cake refrigerated, would it be okay until Christmas Eve. The lady seemed exasperated that I asked and in an irritated tone, asked her co-workers. Another lady told me that as long as we didn't cut it, that it should be fine. So, I told the lady that I would take the cake. As she was about to hand me the cake, I noticed that there was another Red Velvet cake but with different icing. I asked if it was the same as the other and she rudely answered that it was the same thing with just different icing. She had a look on her face like she was going to get really mad if I changed my mind, so I said never mind and kept the one I had. Here's the bottom line... I've been in customer service for 40 years and if anyone knows that customers can be difficult, it's me. I also understand that it's the holidays and we're all tired. I work in a bank. Trust me, I'm tired too! But you have to put yourself in the customers shoes and realize that they're not there to make your life hard. What we are is consumers that are your bread and butter and every customer that walks through that door is a blessing, difficult or not. And I wasn't even difficult! I just asked a darned question! My advice to this lady is simple. Fake it until you make it. If you can't do that, stay home! Merry Christmas!”
