Our go to hotel. You can always count on quality with Westin. The location was in walking distance to several restaurants and a park for the little ones, or fur babies. The staff is always friendly.
Walkability: Located in downtown across from Uptown.

YOUR BELONGINGS WILL GET STOLEN!!! THEIR VALET WILL STEAL YOUR STUFF!. My friend and I both had our firearms stolen out of our car. We arrived at the hotel for a dinner with our fraternity brothers. Upon arrival, we see the valet sitting in someone else's car either video chatting or taking pictures. He hops out of that car and valet our car. 3 hours later a different valet returns our car citing that the previous valet had a family emergency and had to leave (soon after we valeted our car). Both of our firearms were stolen, yet there were no signs of forced entry into the vehicle. The valet company (LAZ) says they will file a report along with the Westin (Mariott). Neither the Westin nor LAZ has provided any info regarding the situation. It's clear that the valet stole them, and yet, HE STILL WORKS THERE. we are awaiting Birmingham PD to complete their investigation. Note that since this valet has been working there for only a month, a car has also been stolen from that valet. IF YOU VALUE YOUR BELONGINGS, DONT COME HERE.

The beds were lumpy and very hard! The pillows were great! The cracks along the walls, like where tile from floor met wall had cracks and broken caulking. Soap dispensers were empty and never refilled while I was there for 4 days. Towels were like drying with 80 grit sandpaper. Pool was closed in the middle of summer for “maintenance” but never once saw anyone doing anything with it i.e. cleaning, fixing etc. overall experience was ok. Not great and not bad. For the money it wasn’t worth it for me. I’d choose somewhere else to go.

I had a awful experience at this hotel.
My first room had nasty mattress.
I requested to be moved and the second room had blood on the side of the tub . The entire time I was there the blood stayed on the tub. The sheets had holes in it. It was like I was in a twilight motel for truckers.
The room just felt and smelled terrible.
I was there for a job conference and just dealt with it but wanted to sleep in my car.
I would not recommend this place unless they get a total remodel.

Definitely the place to stay. Convention center walkways make it easy. Awesome people, close to Uptown.
Nearby activities: Museum within 2 blocks. Great food venues close by. Amazing 1 mile long park under the overpass.
Walkability: Close to everything we needed

We were going on a road trip and stopped by at this hotel for the night 6/30. Service was great! The restaurant had great food! The thing is the shower in our room was leaking (a little bit) and also my fiancé got bug bites on his neck, elbow and back that we noticed the next day! So overall not a great experience!

The hotel front desk staff are not very responsive and seem like they do not really want to be there. A coworker of mine waited for 5 minutes while one of the front desk staff was on their phone slightly hidden in the back office with the front desk unattended.
The self parking situation is ridiculous. To park properly you would have to park on the 5th floor. To get to your room you would then have to take an elevator down to the second floor, then walk across the bridge to take what seems to be only one operational elevator(at the time I was there).
I do not believe I can fault the hotel for the toiletries on the shower floor upon my arrival, but still not a good look.

Having a hotel that’s not just “dog friendly” but truly DOG FRIENDLY is the most comforting, incredible experience when you’re traveling with your dog, who is often treated like a nuisance to establishments. This hotel, however, gives them a dog bed and a bowl on check in, and you get a little dog poop bag holder too, for your walks. It made all the difference in feeling like our dog was a part of our family on our trip, and treated as such. Dogs are guests too!

Restaurant (not coffee shop) no staff, especially when the hotel was totally booked with a Porsche convention, is simply a sign of indifferent management

We arrived in Birmingham after a long trip from Florida and needed a place to rest. I searched for the best hotel in town and found The Westin on Google.
Initially, the rate I was quoted was $209 per room. I booked two rooms: one for my kids and another for me, my wife, and our two-year-old. However, the final charges came to $248.58 and $287.58, significantly higher than the quoted rate. Online, these same rooms were advertised for $190 each.
On the night we arrived, we left our belongings in the rooms, went to eat, and came back to sleep. Before going to bed, I set the thermostat in both rooms to 71 degrees Fahrenheit. However, the temperature in our king-size room (room 434) dropped to 65 degrees by 2:00 AM. We were freezing!
I called downstairs to inquire about operating the thermostat, and the response was that they would need to send an engineer to the room. This never happened. The following morning, after a terrible night's sleep, I called again at 8:00 AM. The manager didn't arrive until 1:00 PM.
After explaining the situation, I expected her to adjust my bill. Instead, I was charged the full $209 for one room and $287.58 for the other.
I don't understand why your hotel is so expensive. The rooms are no better than average, and in fact, the TV controls and air conditioning didn't work. The customer service was also terrible. To make matters worse, when I went to breakfast (which I had to pay for separately), they didn't even have fresh eggs!
Overall, the hotel was bad, the food was terrible, and the service was abysmal. why this hotel is more expensive than a Motel 8?
Rooms: terrible
Food & drinks: bad no fresh eggs

Fine hotel. Valet service is horrible, though. Front desk won’t answer your call when you are looking for the valet. Awful early morning front desk service.

I've stayed at worse Marriott properties but this is the worst Westin I've stayed at. My room was fine, a bit worn, with some fixture issues (the shower handle kept turning), but otherwise acceptable; of all the hotels I've stayed in, this was one of them. The BIG issue is, there's nowhere to eat. The hotel has a pricey steak place (10oz filet = $60+) but that's it; there's a poorly run but pleasant looking coffee shop off the lobby. Across the street is a Brazilian steak house ($52), down the block a very unauthentic Mexican place, and a sports bar with a sub 4 star rating. Oh, and a Subway. That's it. You're wedged between the highway and a sports stadium (if you get a room facing it, move: The bright lights are on all night and the noise from whatever the event was overwhelmed my TV). I had to explain to the lobby bartender that a dry martini meant LESS vermouth, not more and that a vodka soda was not a vodka tonic. :-|

Overzealous security staff...I went outside for a few minutes, then went back in, and a security guard accosted me and first asked where I was going, and when I mumbled a response she kept following me, and demanded to know where I was going.
