I arrived at the Redmont Hotel in Birmingham, AL, on July 23rd, 2024, anticipating a pleasant two-night stay. After experiencing what went terribly wrong during my visit, I felt it necessary to wait before posting a review in hopes that Hilton would address my concerns. Unfortunately, all I received was my bill, prompting me to share my negative experience.
To begin with, the hotel itself possesses a charming historic appeal. The exterior is a beautiful, old building filled with character, with unique touches that modern hotels often lack. However, the allure of its age quickly faded upon entering the premises. I anticipated the typical quirks of an older establishment, but there’s a significant difference between old-world charm and neglect. This hotel is in dire need of maintenance. Upon reaching the 11th floor, I encountered large bleach stains on the carpet in the hallway, accompanied by a damp, musty smell in the air. Entering my room only deepened my disappointment. The window curtains were broken at the top, rendering them useless for privacy. I found two dead yellow jackets on the floor and the bathroom tub faucet was improperly secured. The water pressure was notably low, and it took an unusually long time for the water to heat up. The lack of a refrigerator was particularly frustrating, as I had hoped to store some items during my stay. It was late by the time I settled in, so I opted to get some rest before work the next day. After completing my work commitments the following day, I returned to the hotel around 5:00 PM. I self-parked my vehicle across the street, as I had done the previous night. Upon my arrival, I immediately sensed something was amiss. There was an emergency pump service outside, and an overwhelming smell permeated the air. Stepping into the hotel, I was hit with the same unpleasant odor, and to my dismay, I discovered that all the power was out.I approached the reception desk and inquired about the situation. The receptionist informed me, “Yes, it is an act of God, and something we can’t control. There was flooding in the basement from the rain yesterday, and we don’t have any power or internet.” When I asked about my options, she casually mentioned, “Well, we don’t know when the power will come back on, so if you want to leave and go somewhere else, you absolutely can.”
With that, I decided it was best to check out and find alternative accommodations. I inquired about retrieving my belongings from the 11th floor, only to be told, “There are some stairs right around the corner. Just be careful!” Climbing 11 flights of stairs in pitch darkness, accompanied by the nauseating scent of flood water, was a daunting task. Fortunately, I managed to gather my belongings and make my way back down to the lobby. With no functioning computer system, they wrote down my name and room number, assuring me they would sort it out later. Exiting the hotel, I was left scrambling to find a new place to stay for the night instead of enjoying a relaxing dinner. I had already paid $21 for an extra 24 hours of parking, anticipating a second night in the hotel, which felt like wasted money.
A couple of days later, I received an email containing my bill: one night’s stay, paid in full, without any discounts, messages, or apologies. No acknowledgment of the chaos I endured. While I understand the flooding was beyond their control, their handling of the situation was severely lacking. What if a more serious emergency arose, such as a fire or earthquake? There was a clear absence of organization and leadership. Furthermore, I was troubled by the lack of resources, like flashlights, which could have aided guests in navigating the dark. It raises concerns about safety, particularly for those with disabilities who might struggle to access their rooms under such circumstances. I would not feel safe returning to the Redmont Hotel in Birmingham, AL. The experience was marked by inadequate maintenance, poor crisis management, and a general lack of concern for guest safety

Cool old hotel in the heart of downtown. Loved my stay, and trust me this is not an average hotel restaurant. I was there 3 nights and ate in the restaurant 6 times. 5 star dining for sure.

We liked the location and being able to park across the street, though I wish the parking was adjustable for the times I needed and not a flat rate for either 12 or 18 hours being that we weren’t parking there for that long. The bellhops were always super friendly and helpful they made the stay better. The rooms need work. We stayed in 1010 and it was disappointing, don’t come here expecting to store food or drinks in a mini fridge, cause there isn’t one. Don’t come here expecting to heat up something in a microwave, cause there isn’t one. We really needed those things for our baby and it was a huge disappointment for us, so we won’t be staying here again. For the whole room there was only ONE trash can in the study area, so we had to move that one to the bathroom cause there was no where to throw our babies diapers in. We had to get trash bags from where ever we went to put our trash in cause our one trash can got full. I guess their last guest decided since there was no trash can in the bathroom they thought the proper place to place a gum was on the shampoo bottle, and cleaning crew obviously didn’t even notice it. So who know what else wasn’t cleaned properly. On our way home it clicked that I was sure we forgot a poster in the room, I called for 3 hours with no answer. One time they answered and hung up without saying a word. The next day I tried again, called for 1 hour till I finally got ahold of someone just to find out they most likely mistaken my poster that was rolled up with a black band as trash. I was irritated that we forgot it, but more irritated at the fact that they thought something that was rolled up with a black tie was trash. So to me, someone either kept it or they actually threw it away.

One of my worst overall Hilton experiences.
We stayed in room 701 beginning on Thursday, October 3rd. The staff was nice, but the room was a trainwreck. We noticed a strange smell the first night, the shower dispensers were empty, and there was trash on the floor in the bathroom. While the latter two points were easily solved, the smell remained a problem and the lack of the advertised fitness center was disappointing. A small detail, but the elevators are also beyond their inspection date.
On Friday, we found the source of the smell: molding soaked carpet, probably from an ongoing HVAC leak. I reported it to the front desk and was told they would call me that same day when the new room was ready.
That night, I spoke with the desk attendant on the next shift about not having received the call, and she passed me on to who I assume to be the GM. She was direct and honest about being overbooked and offered a very small refund and a guarantee to get us a new room for the following night, but that we would have to remain in the increasingly unbearable room that night.
I approached the desk on Saturday morning, gave the update from the night before, and was informed that they would not be able to give us the new room assured by the manager for that night. She was able to reserve us a room for Sunday night, which was more comfortable though louder (301).
While the staff was kind and considerate enough in our interactions, they were not able to execute on several days of promises to get us out of a wet and molding room that you could smell approaching from the hall.

Kay, The office manager was blatantly rude and lacked simple knowledge. I asked for a printed receipt for my expenses report and was told to “take it up with Expedia” and was dismissed. Very unprofessional. Will not stay or recommend

We stayed here from Thursday to Monday. I’m pretty sure the entire hotel is moldy from humidity. We would come back and our blankets literally felt wet. The smell is horrible and we were sneezing all weekend. The elevators would trap you on random floors. Half the time it would go the opposite direction. The rooftop bar is very loud and can be heard from inside the rooms and there are homeless people outside bothering guests on the patio. Parking is also a scam. I think next time we will stay at a la Quinta.

$38 daily parking. No fridge, no microwave, no complimentary breakfast. They downgraded our room when we arrived. Not what you're expecting for $300 per night in

We came to the Redmont for the last Furnace Fest this October. The hotel is in a part of downtown that is close to many activities, venues, and restaurants. The hotel itself is clean and well decorated, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and enough for you to lay your head down at night after enjoying yourself out in the city all day.
Rooms: The single king bedroom was simple and clean with a few amenities like a coffee maker, bottled water, iron, and T.V. The bathroom included soft towels, soaps, shampoos, and lotion. I really liked the vintage items, black and white photos, and how the design kept old structures, such as the windows.
Nearby activities: Being downtown, there are many nearby restaurants and activities.
Safety: This is not a very safe area of Birmingham, especially at night, so please take care. I would have appreciated a key operated elevator for additional safety.
Walkability: There are many activities and venues nearby the hotel as well as parking garages.
Food and drinks: We visited the restaurant in the lobby for dessert and enjoyed the delicious cheesecake as well as the attentive service.

This is a beautifully decorated building with a nice view from the top floor. The restaurant makes a good burger. The staff is willing to help improve your stay. But the amenities were not as advertised and the building is poorly maintained. I would not recommend staying here at all, and I'm embarrassed I encouraged my family to book rooms here for a family event.
The amenities are not as advertised. There is no fitness center; the room that was the fitness center is filled with tables and printers and office equipment. There was not even exercise equipment under all of the storage. The website advertises the parking available as $35 per night valet. When you arrive, they tell you it is $38 per night. What the website does not tell you is that you can park on the street for free on the weekends or you can park in a surface across the street for a fraction of the valet cost. The restaurant hours were not as advertised. For example, breakfast on Sunday began much later than advertised, and it's buffet style. The regular king rooms are very small.
The property is not maintained properly. We had a suite on the top floor but had to change rooms because of a ceiling leak. That portion of the ceiling had obviously been repaired before, and when the ceiling was bloated with water, the paint revealed some mold. Another member of our party had the same experience. The room was very damp for the whole stay. It wasn't just regular-old humidity. The top of our ice bucket in our room was rusted and had obviously not been cleaned. We requested twice that that be fixed, but our requests were not responded to.
The phones were down for part of our stay, and staff did not respond to chat messages in the app. If we needed something from the front desk, we had to go there in person.
It rained heavily one of the days we were there. One of the elevators had water dripping down the doors. That elevator continued to operate for a few hours and then was shut down for the rest of our stay. But for the entirety of our stay, you could hear running water below the elevators at the ground floor.
We used the stairs for part of our stay. But when going up to the top floor via stairway, we encountered storage of upholstered couch cushions in an empty part of the stairway. If that is a fire escape, it is completely blocked. If it's not a fire escape, I really hope those upholstered cushions were not used to furnish my room.
Rooms: The regular rooms are SMALL. The suites are a strange, long rectangular configuration, but you get a lot of windows.
Food and drinks: The restaurant makes a good burger. The breakfast was not very good.
Noteworthy details: It's well decorated.

Safety: Need more visible security outside.
