The owners are such wonderful kind people...it was an an honour to spend an hour or so chatting with them. The t-shirts and hoodies are cool and are sold at a low price though quality is high. Loads of books and CDs too. Drop in to say high and buy a t-shirt...you will be glad you did.

Visiting this store is one of the absolute highlights of my trip to Birmingham. The owners, Al and Peggy, were probably the nicest people I’ve ever met. I ended up staying for over 2 hours talking about the history of the city. We also had an honest conversation about the history of racism in the south. I left with two tee shirts, a free bottle of water and a great history lesson. I would absolutely recommend coming here.

This is a wonderful shop and the owners are on a great mission to keep people informed about black history and history in Birmingham. They are such friendly and personable individuals. I went in with my sister who had visited the store the day before and my experience was everything my sister said it would be and more. I got shirts and was able to pick a book. They make you feel like part of their family and fellow customers struck up conversations with each other also as that was the type of vibe this store provides. I'll most definitely be back to visit and shop and encourage you to visit while in Birmingham. The store and the store owners are gems!!

The owners of this wonderful little store and their important mission to keep the rich history of the area alive while empowering residents to remain engaged in working towards a better future was a highlight of my visit to Birmingham! I got some wonderful shirts at a great price and every customer gets to pick out a free book as well! The friendly service and hugs were an added bonus! I highly recommend checking out this unique little shop!

This shop with its amazing owners and wonderful mission was a highlight in my visit to Birmingham! Not only did I pick up a couple of great t-shirts at an amazing price, chutneys also get to pick out a free book with every purchase. Old Southern Charm in the Black owned business in Birmingham. I wish I had more time to shop...I stopped in to get shaved ice and ice cream after eating next door...trust me these prices are cheap, cheap, cheap. So please bless them with a tip and plan to have time to chat with the wonderful people there.

Such a cute and awesome t shirt store! The shirts are such a bargain along with the books they had. The owners are so sweet and giving. Me and my sister came in to look around, and grabbed 3 shirts and headed to pay. Because of the generous and kind owners, we left with 3 shirts, 2 educational books, and 2 big bottles of Gatorade for no extra charge. These people make you feel like family and sent me out with a huge hug. Seriously go check out this store and these people!!!!

What a beautiful day! The experience that Al & Peggy shared with us of the 4th Street District, was not only interesting but delivered with integrity and passion! ...and received 3 free books of my choice which was an additional plus. Came for a shirt, ended up staying for a 2 hour chat with the wonderful store owners. Friendly isn't nearly a strong enough description. You can also get drinks and snacks plus a free book (!) With a purchase. Unique.
