This was definitely a bit of a hood gas station. With that said I loved it. I was driving from L.A. to NYC over 11 days and we made a pit stop here for gas and I knew where I was when I pulled up LOL. This was a cool, community gas station though and I never felt worried even based on the location. Gas station selling shoes inside, cheap rims. Girls in their car screaming over the phone, bums having a hilarious conversation with the owners of the gas station, hip hop music playing on subs in the Escalade behind me, a young 20's guy incredible high and decides to invite to a party..... LOL. This place was crazy at 10pm. I liked it though, call me crazy.

day 28 of being lost so this time i am lost in birmingham abalamba. somehow the interestate i was on just freakin ended. wtf? how does that happen??? so i had to turn back around. i asked for directions. you always have to ask twice for directions whenever you are lost. the first person will get you to the general vicinity. the second will get you there. so i got close enough and stopped by this chevron to fill up. everything i know about birmingham is what i know from history, books, tv. i think of that spike lee documentary, 4 little girls. i think of civil rights. a lot of images pop into my head. i used to be very interested in the civil rights movement and at one time wanted to be actively involved. but that was a lifetime ago and i am far less serious now. this chevron though had an asian dude working there. he called me bro haha. bro? people say that in the south? but then his heavy accent kicked in. sweet! just hearing that accent come out of his mouth was so cool. i ended up also getting a hot dog and it wasn't bad. the first time i ate at a chevron. he gave me the right directions to get me back on the road. thanks bro! if it wasn't for him i wouldn't be here sitting down in my super mario bros boxers typing this up!
