I've been taking my ferrets there for 14 years. When I moved out of town, I'd stock up on medication when I was back in the Madison area. I haven't had any issues in 2 year until today when I was told yesterday my medication would be ready. When I got there, it wasn't and I was told they couldn't give it to me. I told them I had just lost one ferret after 9 years but I was still giving medication to another. I had even called a couple of months ago to talk about her condition and was told that there was nothing they could do and to just keep doing what I was doing. Without the medication, she will go into what is essentially a diabetic coma. I told them that they'd kill my ferret by refusing the medication. Instead of being compassionate that I had just lost my beloved furry baby, they started yelling at me and saying that they couldn't keep calling the vet about the medication because I was bothering them with their family. I had driven almost two hours because I was told the day before my medication would be ready. But I'm inconveniencing them?! I felt so unsafe with a woman yelling at me. Why would I bring my pet into a place that made me physically feel unsafe?! This is completely unprofessional, irresponsible, and unacceptable, as well as abusive and neglectful.

We have used OVC for many years with the last 3 of our 5 dogs & have always received good care. Some changes I've seen deal with reception staff recently. There's a lack of empathy & professional ability, more of a lacsidasical attitude with the exception of Amanda who was wonderful on the phone when contacting to have to put our dog to sleep. She fit us in & cared & was kind. But upon arrival for the appt, of course already feeling terrible that we had to be doing this, we were met by others with "Do you want to take care of this now?" (The bill). I was stunned & hurt. My husband said no.
Drs, PLEASE train & instruct your staff in common courtesies, empathy, & ways to make this kind of visit easier in every way. After the appt, feeling awful, the billing wasn't even ready, she didn't know what had been done even when given our name, & had to look up PRICING on a sheet never even giving eye contact or an apology or sorry for your loss. Didn't seem to care. It was just a bill. I've worked professionally for yrs & had I acted in such a way, I'd be given notice.
I don't know if these people don't know how to act but they need to be trained if they're going to be working in any profession. You are working with people who hurt because their animals are hurting.
Another suggestion is to offer the client to have the bill sent, being kind in one's responses and looking them in the eye and telling them you're sorry for their loss. A small effort goes a long way with reputation.

I was recommended to Oregon Vet through a family member 9 years ago. I've been taking my fur babies here ever since. I moved to Baraboo July of 2019 and still make the hour drive when my kids need their check ups. The staff is amazing! Mary and Dylan are 2 names that I can remember off the top of my head, because of how well they treated me and my kids. If by chance you're looking for a new vet, I'd highly recommend OVC if you like being treated as family.

The folks at OVC are amazing! I still live an hour away and drive to Oregon for their exceptional service.

I have nothing but good things to say about this establishment. I came here for a 2nd opinion when my pet needed surgery, and I'm very happy I did. The care they gave my pet was top-notch. Past that, the staff showed me they actually care, both in how they made follow-up calls to check on my pet's rehab progress, but also just how they interact with the pets in their care. I will recommend this place to friends & family, especially for the common surgery my pet needed.

My parents took our childhood dog to OVC and they were amazing right up until he crossed the rainbow bridge in 2020. About a year ago I got my first dog of my own and I chose to use OVC for him as well. I cannot say enough good things about this vet clinic as a first time dog owner, they have happily answered every question and usually before I’ve had a chance to even ask it. At my first appointment, Dr. Orvick took the time to get a feel for my lifestyle and recommended certain vaccines and preventatives based on that. I have seen a handful of doctors since then and each of them has stopped to ask me how my dog is doing overall, how training is going, any non-medical concerns and etc. They are also always very open to talk about costs of potential treatments and I never feel like they’re doing unnecessary procedures just to charge me. I have so much confidence in their care and taking my boy to OVC has truly helped me be a better dog owner. I can’t recommend them enough and I am so grateful for all their help.
