If you're looking for a picturesque hotel to take photos in, this is the place for you, but don't plan on living here. As a seasoned business traveler I've never encountered this level of a complete lack of basic amenities. This was advertised as a 3-star hotel. It isn't. I'm not sure that it meets the criteria as a 2 star. Here's what's missing:
A dresser. There isn't a dresser. There are no drawers to unpack your stuff into, or surface to place things on in the bedroom - so don't plan on staying long.
A closet or wardrobe. Nope! All you'll get is a pole off the wall with 6 hangers. Don't plan on having shelf space to set a suitcase or place unused pillows. Pile that stuff on the floor, or take up half the bed with it.
Any waist level surface. The minifridge sat on the floor. The coffee sat on top of that. I found myself sitting crosslegged on a dusty floor just to make myself coffee in the morning. As a 6' 4" guy with a bad back I just couldn't believe that anyone would think that this is accommodating in any way.
Dusted blinds. If you do decide you'll want a little light in the room, prepare for a cloud of dust to greet you as you open the blinds - the cleaning crew only wipes off the side facing the camera - the other side must not have been touched in months.
A desk. When I communicated my needs for a surface to work on, I was told that I can find such amenities at a nearby coffee shop. At 8:30pm when we checked in, all nearby places were closed. Don’t show up with plans to sit down and focus on your next day’s presentation.
A towel rack to put wet towels: Just throw them on the ground because there's not a single place to hang them up after they come off the tiny shelves that look so nice in the photos.
A couch: We upgraded to the 2-room suite. The small bench that sits in front of the fireplace is about large enough to sit on to take off your shoes, but don’t plan on getting comfortable with a love one.
A water glass: Do you like to set a glass of water out next to the bed for your meds in the morning or if you wake up thirsty? Your only option is re-using one of the paper coffee cups.
A host experienced in hospitality: The host literally did not care or even acknowledge that my concerns were valid. In response to a total lack of closet, desk, shelves, dresser, or a surface to put anything I was told: "The pictures and online description are accurate". Except they were not. By calling yourself a 3-star hotel providing a desk and dresser are assumed in the united states. I’ll post my own photos so that you can compare to theirs. There was no offer to help in any way, no empathy that what we were asking for was reasonable for what they sold us, and no offer of a reduced rate – only that if we got out in 2-hours we wouldn’t be billed for the next day.
We paid a little extra – even upgraded to the suite - What we got was an overpriced disappointment. I would have been much happier staying at the holiday inn express down the street – and would have saved hundreds of dollars.
Advice to host: Try staying here for a night.
Edit to respond to owner comment:
We paid for a 3-star hotel accomodations, which means we paid for a private space to conduct business. Your "offered accomodations" were suggesting to use someone else's services, and you still haven't acknowledged that this was a bait and switch and that it was your responsibility to accommodate our needs (not by suggesting we go to a coffee shop) or refund our money. The offer to check out early was entirely disingenuous because my partner was already at the office and you gave us only two hours. I asked to move at 6pm when she returned and you conveniently ignored my request.

My husband and I loved our stay at The Dubbel Dutch. It's a very unique hotel in a great location. We walked every downtown because of how close it was. The communication was also top notch with staff/management. We will definitely be returning to this gem on our next visit.

The hotel says it accepts pets. Read the fine print. In addition to charging $50 a night-- ridiculous!-- they will not allow you to leave your pet crated in the room. Given that dogs are not allowed in restaurants in Milwaukee, what are you supposed to do? So we cancelled and were charged $146. Given no staff on site, we could have just ignored the rule-- but are not dishonest. Beware if you have a small dog; it is not welcome. For $50 a night, your dog could have his own room at Motel 6.

What a gem of a hotel. The decor was lovely, the room spotless, the bed very comfortable, and the price excellent. We stayed on a weeknight, which was wonderfully quiet. Our room felt like a small haven where we could easily relax after a busy day exploring Milwaukee. The self-check-in was seamless (foreign visitors don't forget to turn your data on to receive entry instructions); our questions were answered immediately. It was our first time using such a service, and it worked well. Highly recommend this unique stay. I'll be looking for similar properties for our other travel destinations. Thank you Dubbel Dutch!

Historic home turned boutique hotel. Rooms were clean and updated while the common areas kept integrity of historic home. For us it was close enough to walk to lake and many restaurants. There are stairs and it’s keyless entry (in fact we did not see anyone else during our stay) for those looking for a more personal experience. With that said, communication via email and text was still very good. We would stay again.

We spent time at the hotel last year and we loved it, thus we came back. The city is under construction and the hotel staff conveniently forgot to mention that we would be awaken at 7am by the horrendous noise of bulldozers, pneumatic hammering and heavy equipment beeping. While the hotel cannot control construction, they can certainly inform customers of what to expect! We could have easily booked for a different time in the year. I sent them a txt about my unhappiness and part of their reply read ‘they must be working extra hard this morning :)” I felt they were making fun of me and not taking me seriously. While the price point is fair, it is high for my budget. So I paid a lot of money to spend the ‘mini-vacation’ under construction noise. Again, the issue I have is that they did not tell us this was going on.
PS- to my awareness the only ‘offer’ they made me was to check my email when I check out. I have zero offers of anything on my hand. A discount vs future stay does not recover the cost of hotel, air fare and car rental. What about discounting the actual stay!! And I yet have to hear an apology from anybody at the hotel what about ‘ ‘sorry, we should have done better and informed you’

We liked the location. Close enough to walk to many places downtown, and just far enough off a main street that we couldn't hear any traffic. My wife loved the uniqueness of the room.

This hotel is a gem. It is cool, comfy, and chill. You can walk to the lake, the art museum, and downtown to many hot spots. This boutique hotel would make a perfect setting for a, wedding and could easily host your entire party. They have a fancy coffee machine that I love as a little perk. Check it. ?

The Dubbel Dutch is a fantastic spot for couples who need a beautiful, vintage Milwaukee place to get ready for their wedding day. It has so much charm! MKE is full of treasures, but the historical Dubbel Dutch Hotel is undoubtedly one of them. Merging modern comfort with old-world style - it is a peaceful and beautiful place to start your wedding day… and their beds are excellent for jumping. Bonus - they are across the street from a lovely ivy wall that serves well for emotional first looks, fun Champagne toasts, or some other hilarious wedding day shenanigans.

Great place in a good area of Milwaukee. The Art Museum and some great trails are very close by.
Our room was very clean and spacious. Liked not having to keep track of a key card, and just being able to enter a code to get in.
Overall a beautiful building.
Had some questions and got very quick response from the staff.
Would definitely stay there again.

We loved everything about this place. From our amazing room that was very clean to being able to walk around the whole place and explore. It was Halloween weekend so we did a bit of ghost hunting. Enjoyed hanging out in the bar area with our own drinks(bar wasn't open when we where there). Fun staying in a piece of Milwaukee history. Thanks Dubbel Dutch. Def will stay again.

We came into town as a Octoberfest weekend getaway. The location was perfect, central to everything we wanted to do. The room was fantastic, large and clean!

Loved our stay at the Dubbel Dutch! The location was great, check in/out process was super simple, and the rooms were lovely and extremely comfortable. Will definitely stay again and will recommend Dubbel Dutch to any friends looking for a place to stay in MKE.
